FAME... I can't believe how good it looks!!

I have scanned through parts of this disc and all I can say is WOW ! I never expected this film to look this good, it's 23 yrs old and looks like it was shot recently!! I don't know what Warner is doing in their film restoration department but everyone else needs to follow suit!!

Also they've done right by the special features. I just love the video commentary viewing option where some of the cast and Alan Parker chime in!

Biggest surprise thus far is that the designer Isaac Mizrahi was in the film (per Alan Parker). Can't wait to get more tidbits when I have a chance for a proper sit down!!

I had heard great things about this transfer - looks like you've confirmed it. I might have to check this one out.

I CAN'T find this at Best Buy and I was there when they open. What's up with that? Well, I just order it from DDD, now the waiting begins.

How about poor Doris and her overbearing mom? I love when Doris gets high at Rocky Horror

Sounds like a hot DVD - thanks for the reminder! (I never walk down that block of 46th Street without picturing the title song happening all over the street....)

Does Alan Parker talk at all about the editing of the film? My sister and I have always agreed that the film seems like it was edited with garden scheers. The last quarter of the film always feels rushed.

I went for the 'Musicals" section at Best Buy but finally found it in Drama. $14.99. Didn't get a chance to pop it in the main player (Bond resided there most of the night) but I checked it out a bit in the laptop. The promo featurette shot in 1980 looked cool..in a retro, "look what we used ta get for 'extras' back then" way. Looking forward to getting to this one this weekend. Hope the 5.1 mix doesn't let down.

Couldn't wait for the weekend.

The 5.1 mix did not disappoint! Nicely balanced....didn't try and do too much with the rear channels...(since it might have even been a mono master, don't know)...and sounded great for such an old film. My only beef is I feel the chorus/choir is mixed a bit too low during the graduation song, but that's based on listening to the stereo soundtrack LP for years.

I just picked it up. I was wondering about one thing. If it's an MGM film, why is the DVD by Warner....

Haven't listened to the whole commentary but did find some interesting tidbits. Parker said he didn't know that he particularily liked the cast and also that he wasn't able to get permission to film at the actual school because the school board turned him down as they thought he'd make a dark film like MIDNIGHT EXPRESS which he had just done!

Can anyone confirm the running time? Some sites are listing it as 80 minutes and unrated. It should be 134 minutes and rated R. I want to make sure it's not a cut version before I order it. (IMdB says there was a shorter, cleaned-up version in the UK.)

It is definitely the complete, R-rated, theatrical cut. Runs 133 minutes. Some very cool extras. And as others have mentioned, the transfer is simply spectacular, like someone took Windex to the fuzzy image of previous releases.

Does anyone have a rundown of where the 'class reunion' interviews with the cast pop up?

They don't seem to pop up at the start of a chapter, so, short of watching the film again with Parker's commentary, I don't know. (I listened to Parker's commentary the first time while doing something else...)
