Apparently, the concept of a 'bottom' hasn't reached the engineers at Artisan yet. Maybe for the next version...

BladeZ 06-04-03 03:54 PM

I removed the DVD, ripped the whole side of the plastic. Now I'm trying to "Re-engineer" the box to fit properly. I've distorted it in so many ways already trying to find the perfect shape. No luck. So is everyone just going to throw away the Metal cover ???

I doubt "everyone" will. I know I won't. :D

Rammsteinfan 06-04-03 04:20 PM

Maybe we will get the T2: T-1000 edition so the metal case can morph to fit the inner casing properly...

jiggawhat 06-04-03 06:00 PM

I think they planned this. That way they can sell us a new edition in a new case with diamond-studded eyes and a silver head with gold trim. That way they can call it the diamond silver gold collector's edition.

My tin is distorted slightly so it doesn't hold the case at all.

I didn't have any problem at all removing the plastic case from the metal sleeve. Maybe some of the first ones shipped weren't as good as the others, but mine is great. I think the packaging is a pretty nice collector's item and was part of the attraction for buying another copy of a movie I've already got.

dgc 06-04-03 07:27 PM

Shouldn't they be replacing the metal sleeves as well? It was part of the reason for the purchase. Since the sleeves were defective and can not be used by those that have had the problem, the sleeves should be replaced too.

I think they should send everyone who bought the metal sleeve, the paper ones so the same thing doesnt happen

lordzeppelin 06-04-03 10:06 PM

I didn't tear any of the plastic or anything, but the edges are so friggin sharp that I could cut glass with them. I had to bust out the dremmel and round them out...

John Atkins 06-05-03 07:15 AM

Thanks for the warning. I got a copy last night at Best Buy. It looked kind of loose at the bottom, but it still didnt want to come out easy. I then held it with my thumbs on the front, and fingers on the back, and kind of "kneaded" it along the edges. The box slid out then with no problems (no tearing or scratches). If anyone reads this, be VERY gentle with this DVD cover. Thanks again for the heads up.

Rypro 525 06-05-03 01:13 PM

You guys must really not have been carefull or I got lucky. Just pinched the sides and it came out easily.

Decker 06-05-03 01:48 PM

My case was slightly warped outward. The DVD came out rather easily, but the case is full of scratches (maybe from a box knife opening the shipment?). Anyway, I guess I'll not use the metal case anymore. Still, I'm temped to order a replacement case as a spare and then keep my original in the sleeve until it tears. Any thoughts on that? It seems maybe a little dishonest, but it was their manufacturing problem, so that's my justification. :)

KingSmoth 06-05-03 01:57 PM

I went through all of the copies at Target - the majority were banged up, scratched, or warped. I found a perfect copy that gave me the impression I could slide the case out with ease. Of course, I was wrong, and it tore down the entire spine, into the insert cover as well. At least my sleeve is in mint condition...

Spanky BananaPants 06-05-03 02:24 PM

Just picked mine up at Best Buy, after reading this thread. Mine came out with a very minor (read: almost not noticable) scratch on the spine, but otherwise no problem. I decided to be brave, so I put it back in. Got the DVD back out with no problems. There is a pretty good scratch on the tin, but otherwise no big deal. Guess I got really lucky...

I e-mailed an order a replacement case 3 hours before I actually bought the DVD... I'm too scared to open it till the replacement arrives.

Jazzbutcher 06-05-03 02:48 PM

They could've avoided this whole fiasco by making the case out of
a mimetic polyalloy.

Rip it open, and it goes right back to its original shape. Easy.

Yep, that's what I suggested a few posts up. Would be cool :D

The Hulk 06-05-03 05:40 PM

Why did they even remake this?? The Ultimate Edition was good enough.
