20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, are you as pleased as me with the DVD?
I've watched the wide screen 2.55:1 DVD about 14 times since I got it, and I am as thrilled as kid in a candy store seeing them big green eyes of the monster coming towards my ship, at high speed yet again.
I'm only 7 years old sitting tightly against the theater chair in the darkness of the Capital Theaters wide screen. What's missing is my Dad is not here to hold my hand and assure me that what I am seeing is not real. My eyes open to wake up, what a nightmare just like December the 23rd; 2 days before Christmas in 1954.
There is no place like home, There is no place like home, there is no place like home. Only I don't have any red slippers on and no bump on my head and everything is still in color. I realize I am 56 years old now, and seeing 20,000 Leagues in the Capital Theater with dad; was 49 years ago come this December 23.
How about you?

It's a well put-together set. Very impressive. Since I'm into the mechanics of filmmaking, I love the previously lost archieval footage. Also the documentary on the Humbolt Squid makes me as afraid of being in the ocean as Jaws did.
But, more importantly, the movie itself looks GREAT. It's a thrill to see what a nice job they did with the restoration.
x 10

The movies gets a major for video, audio, xtras. The menus are fantastic also
Disney really know how to produce their classic titles (Parent Trap,Swiss Family Robinson,Love Bug etc..).
PS. I hope they release "Escape From Witch Mountain" in the same fashion eventually
Cheers!

Seriously - I'm glad to hear that you enjoy it so much I still have to buy my copy as money is very short. After reading your post and the rest of this thread, I can't wait.
It's good to know that this movie was treated like it should be treated

I got my copy on friday and have to agree with everything that has been said. Amazing film and extras. I was actually amazed how some of the on the set footage shown during the Making of segment looked like it could've been filmed last year.
And they even included a cartoon for Gods sake!
"Spread out folks, this is Cinescope."
I suppose if I just HAD to gripe about something it'd be that the case seemed a bit thick and clunky for just two disks and a single sheet insert. And the odd round border frame for the Humbolt squid short.
This release needs to be in a lot of folks Top 10 release of the year lists.

I'd definitely pick that up, along with the sequel.

I really enjoy the "Vault Disney" line of DVDs.... Although this isn't officially under that banner, the menus are, so it must have been intended to be originally.
All of the extras are wonderful, the movie is fantastic....looks and sounds great! The only disappointment was not seeing the entire Emmy award winning episode of "Disneyland" about the movie included in the set. Instead, a snippet of the program is on the disc.
I found it odd since "Old Yeller" and "Pollyanna" both have complete episodes of "Disneyland" that relate to their films as extras on their DVDs.
But, that disappointment aside, how can I complain? Disney did right by this film on DVD. .....Now, if I can only find the elusive "Love Bug" DVD in stores..... sigh.

actually, noticed something i never have before.
the scale of the Natilus is WAY Underscale. Nemo's cabin, Ned, the Profs cabins, the engine room and the main cooridor would take up the whole ship. There is no room for the crew's quarters, nor any other areas.

Although this one is rated G, what age would you say is appropriate? I'm thinking about picking it up for my son, but thought it might be too scary.
I am ashamed to admit I have never seen it.

When I picked up Mary Poppins Gold Collection in the Disney section last night, I just knew there was something I was forgetting. I am very happy to hear how pleased everyone is w/ this release. I can't wait to pick it up. Disney has been treating some of their older films very well on DVD, imo.

Excellent disc, I'm very happy, but some of the features are lacking. The humbolt squid thing has some good (and scary) footage, but the interview with the diver is silly and tries too desperately to link this footage w/ the film. The interview with the memorabilia collectors is just BIZARRE! The commentary is only so-so. It repeats most of the info covered in the documentary and Rudy Behlmer offers no personal insight, he just asks the questions.
Take note that when the Nautilus is at the surface we only see part of it. When at the surface the back part we see (the part where the row boat comes out) IS NOT the end of the boat. It continues on for quite a ways, it just can't be seen when the boat surfaces. There's far more Nautilus underwater.
