Ron Jeremy: Porn Star DVD

Hope no one has asked this already, I tried the 'search' function but nothing came up.

I picked up a copy of THE LEGEND OF RON JEREMY this afternoon, surprised to have found it in town. Afterwards I went to the Docu-rama website and found out there is an R-rated and un-rated version. Ofcourse, my copy is the R-rated. According to Docu-rama website one runs at 75 minutes, the other runs at 76 minutes. I'm not going to the trouble of returning this and ordering the unrated for a minute of footage (which I assume is just lengthier shots of porno scenes).

Other than the length, does anyone know if the two versions are identical. On the R-rated version, the MPAA rating explains 'Depiction of Mature Thematic Material'. Would that cover nudity and sexual situations? This version dosen't have scenes blurred out like it was a TV show does it? For that I'd go to the trouble of ordering the alternate version.

Can anyone help me out?

Maybe I should have clarified, but it's a documentary about Ron Jeremy. It even has blurb from reputable critics on the box and apparantly was nominated for a Chicago Film Critics award. I'll admit I'm hoping for the occasional salacious shot, but I for one expect this to be an egaging and enlightening examination of a simple man with an unorthodox career.

I rented the DVD when it first came out. It was probably the unrated one (because I didn't rent it at Blockbuster ) but I don't really recall anything too bad in it (except maybe a still picture or two showing the Hedgehog along with his "pride and joy"). Of course, I was making my way through a six pack at the time, so my memory may not be 100% accurate.

Good film though and the commentary is hilarious, with Jeremy constantly interupting the director with inane comments.

Ah ok, gotcha. Anyone that knows even a tiny bit about pornography knows the name. I still suggest asking this over at adultdvdtalk.com. You will probably get a better response. Maybe not. I don't know.

I'll have to go back and check my copy. I know I have the unrated copy. I'll report back tomorrow.

Does the documentary show any clips from his Super Mario Brothers film takeoff?

Well, I asked the same question of Ron Jeremy himself when I interviewed him recently. He said the unrated version included a bit more nudity but only a little bit. There weren't any drawn out porn scenes in either version. I think the difference was about a minute between the two. I only reviewed the unrated version but here's a link to the interview and the dvd review (neither of which can be found at ADT):

If you have any other questions, feel free to email me directly. Good luck!

After rewatching the DVD last night, I think that Houstondon's comments above say it nicely.

Houstondon, thanks for the links, appreciate it.

I opened the DVD up and watched it this afternoon, and found it pretty entertaining.

The most curious thing about the rated R version was what they chose to censor in the movie. In addition to the minute or so of cut footage, they blurr out a certain portion of Ron Jeremy's anatomy. And what seemed really odd was the bleeping of certain curse words (when said by a female porn star. Later the same term was used by a male porn director but unbleeped)

Glad to help out. I haven't been attentive to threads of late since I've been so busy reviewing but I caught it and figured I could help out (at least a little bit). I'd have liked the documentary to include more of his mainstream stuff and/or provide better clips but they aren't always available at affordable rates. I think Docurama puts out some great stuff.

Speedy, thanks for the kind words.
