with region 2 out. when do u think this classic film will see the light of the day in region 1? . criterion perhaps ?

I heard Jay-Z is remixing the title track, "Who Needs a Quickie Mart?"

It'd be great if Criterion did it, but thusfar I've heard no announcements relating to these films. And the general lack of Satyajit Ray's films on DVD (at least in R1) is one of the more depressing nondevelopments over the years. I was a sorta early-adopter, got my first DVD player back in '98-99, and we were already hoping for these (or at least "Pather Panchali", as we didn't think too much about boxsets in those days). Sad to see we've gotten nowhere in terms of some of the greatest films ever made.

And, btw, Matt Groening has confirmed that his Apu (of Quickie-Mart fame) is indeed an homage to Ray's Apu.
