Ultimate Toy Box worth it?
I am only into the movies and sound formats and not the extras. Is it worth the premium to purchase the Toy Story Ultimate Toy Box set for $50? Or, am I better served buying Toy Story 1 and 2 separately?
Since the UTB is going OOP do you think this means there will be another version out shortly?
Thanks.

I guess if you're not into extras, it really doesn't matter. But, everything on the Ultimate edition is worth it for me and it's one of my favorite box sets.
I believe they have a double-disc set of just the movies out there somewhere.

At my local Target they have TS for $14.44 and TS2 for 14.44 right next to the TS 2-pack (or whatever it's called) for 32.99. I don't think they ever sold the Ultimate Box.

Worth it for the commentaries alone, but if you won't listen to them I can understand. All versions of Toy Story are going out of print so if you don't have them, at least get the 2 pack!!

This must be the 50th thread on this forum and elsewhere where someone asks something similar to: "I'm not into extras, so should I get the UTB or the films separately?" I'm baffled by these statements, really. You may very well not be "into" extras, but for the types of films like Pixar's, I find it hard that you'd ignore the extras. Obviously, it's the film that counts, and Pixar's films are all outstanding works of art, but it's the extras that make you appreciate all the hard work that goes into them.

if you don't watch extras at all and don't care how the film came about, than like recommended, get the individual releases or the two pack, and get them FAST... but that said, The Ultimate Toy Box is one of the crown jewels of my collection... a perfect set IMO and one that really set the bar for boxed sets.

The only reason i picked it up is because Bestbuy had it priced for 32.00. Turns out someone who was pricing got that and the normal two pack mixed up. But they went ahead and gave it to me for that price. I was happy. I planned on just getting the two pack set since i could afford 50 or 60 dollars. But i do love the set and if you are into extras then it is worth it. I just wish someone would screw up the price on the Fantasia set.

For those of you who ARE interested in the extras that come with the Ultimate Toy Box, I was able to find it brand new on half.com for $37 and change shipped less than a month ago. Since I think the two movies alone run around $30 dollars, I figured an extra $7 was well worth it for the set.
I dont know if they still are, but many brand new sets were just over $50 when I ordered mine. Apply the $15 off $50 new customer coupon, and there you go.

A few years ago, when I was living in Ohio, a friend of mine worked in the electronics dept at Wal-Mart. Back then, only empty display cases of the movie were on the shelves. You had to go to the counter to get the actual movie.
What this meant was that employees would have to open brand new DVDs, remove the discs, and put the empty packages on display. Usually, the discs got thrown away.
Anywho, my friend came up to me and asked "You have Toy Story on DVD? How about Fantasia?" I said I had Toy Story on VHS, but that was it.
He said "Wait here, I'll be right back."
10 minutes later, he comes back with a stack of DVDs about an inch thick. On the top were the three discs from Toy Story Ultimate Toy Box and the three discs from The Fantasia Legacy.
Since then, I've discovered DVDCoverArt, so I've got these sets in cases with great printouts of the cover art for that box set. Don't have the slip case for either, but for free, I'm not complaining.
And to keep it on subject, yes. Get TS:UTB. I've gone through the supplemental disc on several occasions and I'm still seeing new things. It's LOADED!
<rumor>And it's been rumored that Pixar is working on Toy Story 3. TS and TS2 are probably going OOP now, only to be re-released in the future to accompany a theatrical Toy Story 3.</rumor>

As it's been said, if you're not interested in the extras, don't spend the extra $$$ on UTB. Save the copy for someone who wants the extras. But be warned, the extras are awesome and worth the money - you don't know what you're missing by not being interested in extras.

I know you're not into extras.... but if there's ONE you should own, this should be at the top of the list.

DVDpricesearch.com has a three pack with TS 1 and 2 AND A Bug's Life for $29. I wish I would have seen that the day before yesterday when I ordered the TS two pack for only a couple of dollars less. :/
Edit: Just did a search and it was mentioned here that the copy of A Bug's Life in that three pack is non-anamorphic. Can anyone confirm this?
