Worst DVD On Your Shelf

I read somewhere that everyone, no matter how macho or how geeky they are, has at least one DVD or VHS in their collection that you just look at and go... "huh?" Like the guy that has every copy of Rambo, Rocky, Terminator... and then, off to one side, a copy of Steel Magnolias. (Yes, Rocky_Stallone, I am talking to you... ;))

Anyway, I guess we all have some DVD on our shelves that we got as a gift, or because it was on sale, that we look back on now and say... "Huh. What is that doing there?"

One of the interesting things about being married is that you end up merging you and your mate's extremely eclectic collections. For example, I now have a DVD copy of the Ben Affleck - Gwenyth Paltrow film Bounce... on DVD, so it will last forever...

So what is the worst DVD on your shelf, and how did it get there?

Crocodile Dundee in LA

It was a joke gift from a friend. He tells people that I am a huge Dundee/Paul Hogan (which I am not) fan, so he picked it up for me once. I did watch it, and it sucked.

that's funny, the minute i read your thread title i though "oh, that'd have to be bounce!" i bought it blind and it was just awful. also my b/f's copy of bumfights.

Gummo

There are three DVDs that I would NEVER have in my collection...but unfortunately they are there because my wife wanted them:
The Matrix
Moulin Rouge!
American Beauty

shill66 05-27-03 10:15 AM

Oh, but I guess the proper answer would be "Glitter" (I haven't watched it yet, but I have to see just how bad it really is!)

fumanstan 05-27-03 10:27 AM

Crossroads but Britney is hot :)

Also, my friend has all 4 Bloodsport movies now. I bought him 3 and 4, and he recently picked up 2 to round out his collection. I envision a night of Bloodsport in the near future :D

its a tie between lost in space and batman and robin. both came for free with my DVD player back in the day. I watched batman and robin for about 20 minutes before wanting to shove a rusty ice-pick into my scrotum. so i guess thats the tie breaker as i have yet to put lost in space into my player. its actually been on my shelf for about 3 years without getting opened.

Get Carter - the Stallone version.

That distinction would have to belong to the Blair Witch Project. I still can't believe that corn-studded turd of a 'movie' made over 100 million. *Sigh*
My wife knew how much I hated the movie and picked up the disc at Blockbuster used, as a 'gift'
Every once and a while, I pop it in the player just to remind myself that America is truly the greatest country in the world, an one where a couple of guys can release their home videos on an unsuspecting public to rave reviews and boatloads of cash.

Yakuza Bengoshi 05-27-03 10:49 AM

Black Mask dubbed.

PixyJunket 05-27-03 10:52 AM

*thinks*

Maybe not the 100% winner, but as of recent, I think Donnie Darko sticks out simply because, it's not bad, but with the hype it got on this board I was expecting a great movie. So when I grab a DVD to put on in the background I look over my shelf, see it and roll my eyes.

Sparkle Motion rocked though. ;)

Rammsteinfan 05-27-03 10:52 AM

I would have to say Blair Witch 2, it was free so I kept it. Only watched it once for the commentary. At least I dont have Battlefield Earth :D

Yakuza Bengoshi 05-27-03 11:07 AM

*shrug* I actually enjoyed Blair Witch and Blair Witch 2 a lot. There's a whole lot worse horror out there than those two films.

Quake1028 05-27-03 11:09 AM

Worst dvd quality is definitely Fists of Fury & The Chinese Connection: Collector's Edition.

Worst movie wise is most likely Stepmom or Lost in Space. Both came free with my player.

theneobez 05-27-03 11:11 AM

True Romance and xXx which I am selling this week. I also despise Reservoir Dogs, but I won't be selling it, it's my bros.

Johnny Zhivago 05-27-03 11:15 AM

None.

If the film holds no replay value, it goes to eBay...

But, for the sake of the thread, The Ring was the last stinker that was on my shelf... Good riddance.

Rypro 525 05-27-03 11:20 AM

The animal

Red Dog 05-27-03 11:37 AM

Rocky V or Beverly Hills Cop III

jblackie 05-27-03 11:45 AM

Saturday Night Live: 25 Years Of Laughs
not.
Too long, too chopped.

Turd Ferguson 05-27-03 11:52 AM

Pearl Harbor. My dad gave it to me as a gift. I've seen pornos with better dialogue.

freudguy 05-27-03 12:00 PM

Charlie's Angels (the movie) - Geez, how that sucked

Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood - crapola, rip-off of the estrogen-laced nostalgia of Steel Magnolias (which I can tolerate) - I can't get rid of it, it was a gift for my wife.

I actually kinda like Lost in Space, considering it was a freebie.

shill66 05-27-03 12:14 PM

Just WHAT was I thinking when I bought this???????
Hahaha! I love the "murky letterboxed edition" note on the cover! We need more truth in advertising like that!

DumDum 05-27-03 12:19 PM

Life or Something Like It
Sweet Home Alabama
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Fear Dot Com

I'm proud to say my wife purchased all four. :D
