Can you help me find a movie list generator?
Hey all. Long time no see. Wondered if someone could point me toward a resource ...
I have a friend who teaches sociology and wants to assign students films to view for their "sociological significance." She wants no two students to watch the same film, and has several sections of students. 350 in all, to be exact. And she wants enough to assign separate films to 350 students for TWO years (so as to prevent "cheating" from one year to the next).
In short, I need to create a list of titles w/release year of 700 movies. I love lists, and I'm usually good at this stuff, but I'm a bit at a loss. On IMDB, you can view the top 250 of all time, as well as the top 100 in each genre, or the top 10 of each year. But if I use more than one of those lists to achieve the needed 700, I'll surely have a lot of doubles. I need to find a single list of at least 700 movies (with release year). Can't seem to find a simple way to do this on the web.
I thought a DVD list would be useful, though that would surely include a lot of stuff like TV series, documentaries, junk, etc. Didn't DVDFile use to have a DVD Database? Can't find it there now, though maybe I'm blind.
Really what I need is a movie list generator. Is there some movie fan site out there that simply lists, say, the top 1000 movies of all time. I even tried to use AFI, but of course their list is only 100.
Let me know if you know of a good movie list on the web that meets these criteria ... either a list generator or just a list. It'll be a big help. I know something like this has to be out there.

This thread contains the link to bga's lastest compilation of the entire CH catalog. You can pull it into a spreadsheet for better organization. Oh, and it contains each movie's original year of release too. I don't know how many are listed, but it has to be far more than 700.
And as a bonus lesson, your friend can teach her students about saving money from CH, too!
