May 22: Final specs for Anchor Bay's DAY OF THE DEAD 2-DVD set
Anchor Bay has informed Fango of the final specs on its amazing two-DVD release of DAY OF THE DEAD, coming August 19. This is the first Anchor Bay title to use the new DiviMax high-definition transfer process, and will present the film in 1.85:1, 16x9-enhanced widescreen. In addition to 6.1 DTS-ES and Dolby Digital Surround EX soundtracks, the movie will come with audio commentary by George A. Romero, Tom Savini, production designer Cletus Anderson and star Lori Cardille, and a second commentary track by filmmaker Roger (KILLING ZOE) Avary.
The second disc will be packed with a wide array of bonus materials, as follows:
• The Many Days of DAY OF THE DEAD—An all-new 39-minute documentary featuring interviews with Romero, producer David Ball, Savini and makeup FX artist Greg Nicotero, Anderson, assistant director Chris Romero and actors Cardille, Joseph Pilato and Howard Sherman
• DAY OF THE DEAD: Behind The Scenes—31 minutes of production footage from Savini
• An audio interview with late actor Richard (Dr. Logan) Liberty
• A promotional video for the Wampum Mine location
• Theatrical trailers and TV spots
• Production stills and behind-the-scenes photos
• Zombie makeup photo and continuity stills galleries
• Posters and ad art
• Memorabilia gallery
• DVD-ROM features: Romero’s original draft of the screenplay and production memos
The package also comes with a 16-page booklet designed to look like Dr. Logan’s notebook, containing liner notes and original production sketches from the film. And it’s all for just $29.98! Romero fans, start salivating now…

Any info on this DiviMax high-definition transfer process? Hope it gets done right as the presentation is most important IMO ....
then again can it look worse than the first release?

I just love when they take out all the stops on DVD editions of either little seen or cultish sorts of films, like Universal did with The Thing and now like Anchor Bay is doing with this film. I hope the commentary is the all together in a room type and not the cobbled together from a bunch of separate viewings kind. The latter can be good but the former is usually exceptional. I've always thought Day to be the least of the trilogy, with most of the problems laying in the writing of and characterization of the soldiers, but I still find it to be a really good Romero film. A *definite* buy.

I was never that impressed with DAY OF THE DEAD. I love NIGHT and DAWN and would buy any new version that comes out...
However, I recently caught the film on a movie channel (having not seen it in MANY years), and I found myself really enjoying it. Looks like I'll be adding this one to my collection. Hell, the commentaries sound like they're worth the price by themselves....

While it may not be the best movie for many reasons. You have to admit Savini really outdid himself this time!
The FX are some of the most realistic, gruesome & painfully impressive i have ever seen in a film before. They even outdo Dawn, despite that being the superior film!
So this is a 'must buy' for myself since the film has it's moments..& the extra's make it even more worthy of owning. I can't wait for the Dawn SE though as thats one of my all time favorites!

i just saw this for the first time a few weeks ago, and it has everything i love about zombie movies: ridiculous acting, awesome music, and of course zombies getting dispatched. i never take zombie movies too seriously, and day sort of plays up the campy aspects (perhaps unintentionally?) and for that i love it. i can't wait for this set, or the dawn set!

I'm so getting this one.
But, dear God, please, AB, please put it in a double-keepcase and not one of those lousy paper AOD "Boomstick" packages.

I just saw 28 DAYS LATER yesterday (loved it!) and now I'm on a full-blown zombie kick. I can't wait for the DAY OF THE DEAD: SE, but given Anchor Bay's tiring re-re-re-releases of ARMY OF DARKNESS, and given the lack of deleted scenes, I wonder if there will be an "ultimate" edition down the road.
In any case, I hope Romero gets DEAD RECKONING off the ground. Every decade deserves a DEAD movie, and we're already overdue one for the '90s.

I'd be surprised if there were fewer than 3 more versions of this down the road. I'm still getting this one, though.
