Playback Problem with Dances With Wolves SE
Just picked up the 4-hour SE of DWW released this week. About an hour into the movie, the picture and sound began to freeze momentarily. It did this about 50 times before the movie was over (both sides of the disc). I played it on a Philips DVDR985 recorder. I've watched dozens of movies on this machine and never had this problem with any other discs. Anyone else having problems with this movie?

no problems at all. you must try it on another player so you can rule out either the player or the disc. could just be a screwed disc....exchange it if nothing else.

Had the same thing happen, not to the same extent as yours though. About 2-3 times, it looked like a frame was either skipped or doubled. Didn't really happen enough for me to care.
However on the special features, I had problems with all the trailers. So maybe some of the discs weren't pressed properly.

I had a similar problem. Don't know the exact chapter, but it was right at the moment, after Dunbar sees the Buffalo, and goes back to the camps. He gets pulled off his horse and everything freezes...if I wait a few seconds, then it skips to the next chapter.
Ah, back to BB I go.

Same problem here, but only once during the film, about 1/2 way thru the second side.

Spoiler:
Same thing here. Only time during the whole movie where there was a slight pause.

What kind of players are you all using? I haven't had time to watch my copy yet, but I've had similar problems with some Buena Vista disks on my Sony 7700. I hope MGM disks don't start giving me trouble too.
Is there any pixelating and skipping along with the pauses? I ask because my copy of the Wintalkers SE does this so bad that it's unwatchable. Hopefully it's just a defective disk.

Didn't think it was worth starting a new thread for this:
On my Cyberhome 500 player, the English subtitles cannot be turned off during this movie. Selecting "none" from the main menu doesn't work, and the subtitle button on the remote is disabled during playback of this particular disc.
I haven't watched more than five minutes of the movie because of this (it's extremely distracting to me)... Anyone else experience this problem?

...um, 3/4 of the movie has english subtitles. Kinda helps if you don't speak Sioux.
Just finished watching all 4 hours. No problems here. Just a regular layer change on the second disc.

Hmm, I didn't word it very well... :P
I get English subtitles for everything, not just when the Sioux are speaking. It's basically like the subtitle problem mentioned in the Red Violin review.
