Casablanca 60th Anniversary
I didn't see this posted here, but I found this last night at www.videobusiness.com in their DVD news section. I'd heard speculation, but this is the first I've seen this much detailed info.
CASABLANCA ON DVD: YOU MAY NOT REMEMBER THIS
10 minutes of unseen footage on Warner special edition out in August.

MAY 21 | Warner Home Video will celebrate the 60th anniversary of an American classic when it releases a two-disc special edition DVD of Casablanca on Aug. 5 with 10 minutes of recently discovered deleted scenes and outtakes.
The film, voted "the screen's greatest love story" by the American Film Institute, will be presented in a new digital transfer. A digital remaster was created directly from nitrate picture and sound elements to show Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman and Claude Rains at their best.
"We were pleased that recent advances in digital technology allowed us to revisit the early restoration work," said Ned Price, VP of technical operations mastering for Warner Bros.
Prebook is July 8. The film has an SRP of $26.98.
Other new extras on the set are two audio commentary tracks from movie critic Roger Ebert and film historian Rudy Behlmer, and the featurette "The Children Remember," which includes memories from son Stephen Bogart and Bergman daughters Pia Lindstrom and Isabella Rossellini.
Other supplements on the DVD that have been available in previous video incarnations include two documentaries hosted by actress Lauren Bacall, one-time wife of Bogart: You Must Remember This: The Making of Casablanca and Bacall on Bogart; a "Screen Guild Players Radio Production" with the film's stars; scoring session outtakes; and an introduction by Bacall.
Directed by Michael Curtiz, Casablanca won three Academy Awards, including best picture in 1943.

Nice to see they're including the previous special features as well but the Ebert commentary sold it for me.

This just may be the first time I've been really happy to double dip.
Not only am I glad that the SE is coming out, I'm glad Warner Bros. saw fit to release the old edition a long time ago so we never had to wait to see Casablanca on DVD.
Too bad Star Wars wasn't treated this way.

I honestly wonder if I want to see these deleted scenes. I hope they aren't something that spoils the magic.
(Also, I believe they excavated the "killing spree" ending to "It's A Wonderful Life".)
