Windtalkers SE, is it worth picking up?

Let me say I rented the original edition and could not even make it through the movie as I thought it was total tripe. However, I realized that this was a studio version and most likely not what Woo had envisioned. I know that the new version is a bit longer and that seems like a significant addition that could change the way you view the movie. I am really on the fence about this one and would like some advice.
Let me say that I am a big time history buff and love documentaries about WWII topics, I even bought the Deluxe Edition of Pearl Harbor for the historical material, despite my distaste for the actual movie.

I would think for the price ($23 at CC) if you were at all interested, it would be worth it. I liked this movie, not a great deal, but enough to buy this edition. It had a good premise, and some decent action parts

That's exactly it though....i'd only buy it to show off as the greatest example of a good idea gone bad in recent memory. They totally blew it with this crapfest. I can't imagine anything being added to it that would change that....but that's just me.

There is a $10 rebate if you have (access to the PoP of) the original version.

$22.99 - $10 = $12.99. Pretty sweet for a 3-disc set.

If you are getting Dances with Wolves too. BB have both for $34.98 this week.

I agree. I too am on the fence with the 3-disc Deluxe Edition, if for the only reason that there is only a shred of hope that Woo was able to re-work this film to actually make it a compelling story.

Still no word?

Is $34.98 the price for both of them (DWW and Windtalkers together)? If so, then that is quite a deal.

I am looking forwartd to some of the spec features on it. The movie itself wasnt very good, there is no doubt, but I am hoping for everything over all to make it better

I finally saw this the other night. Although I wasn't as negative on the movie as many others are, I don't see much point to the upgrade. I got lucky with Pearl Harbor, found a used Vista copy for $15 with the rebate still in it. So I paid $5 net then sold my old copy for $8. No-Brainer.

they could add 5 more discs...and I'd still pass. this is the first dvd I'm tossing out of my collection. Woo + hollywood = bad relationship.

Does anyone know the details of the $10 rebate? Do you only need the POP or is the original receipt required, too?
