Is Good Will Hunting anamorphic?

I have seen two different Good Will Hunting DVD packagings; one that says it is “enhanced for 16X9 TVs,” and another that merely says it is widescreen. So what’s the deal?

I believe Disney repackaged a few of their DVD's (Good Will Hunting, Phantoms, Metro) and indicated new anamorphic transfers, but they were just misprints. The old non-anamorphic discs were still inside. The only way to get an R1 anamorphic Good Will Hunting is to get the Alliance DVD from Canada (which also has a few more extras than the U.S. disc as well)

I did a search before posting, but somehow missed these threads. Thanks for links (and sorry for my oversight).

Ah yes, you can tell Summer is coming because we've yet another "Is GWH anamorphic?" thread.

I tell you, I'm going to miss the "Is Seinfeld on DVD?" threads once the first season is released.

Of course, then the threads will be "When is Seinfeld Season 2 coming to DVD?"

The maddness just never ends...

I have the Alliance version from Canada and it does NOT specify on the back "enhanced for widescreen sets" or "16x9"

It says "OAR of 1:85 letterbox format". Is that the same thing??

Yep, "Enhanced Widescreen" is very misleading. I bought Dead Presidents a couple weeks ago thinking it was anamorphic but it wasn't. Nonetheless, the transfer was still decent for a non-anamorphic.

The picture looks like the Alliance version, which is indeed anamorphic (and contains a few extra scenes from the U.S. version - as supplements - not re-integrated into the film).

This is the version to get of GWH.
