Okay, here's what I would love to have.

Collections of videos by year and theme, like this:

MTV's Headbanger's Ball 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990... and so on.
MTV's 120 Minutes 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990... and so on.

With each DVD having approximately 40 videos. And each DVD could use the old intros and graphics, maybe even clips of the hosts and guest bands. I can even smell boxed sets.

It's like, what the else are the record companies doing with these videos? Let them put out cheap compilations. It might drum up interest in the bands and albums.

I really want Devo - The Compleat Truth about De-Evolution. It's been released on LD, and I really want it on DVD. Every video, plus absolutely tons of extras.

It was rumored that a live concert was recorded and was to be released on video along with the live concert (Now It Can Be Told) but it got shelved for some reason. How about a live concert released on DVD.

THORN EMI VIDEO (Remember that ol' company that was out during the birth of VHS?) came out with a collection of Duran Duran videos from back in the day:

Rio
Planet Earth
Lonely in your nightmare
Careless Memories
My Own Way
Hungry Like the Wolf
Nightboat
Girls on Film (Uncut)
Save a Prayer
The Chauffeur (Uncut)
Is there something I should know?

I'd love to pick up a remastered DVD of that collection.

I'd buy it. I love everything about the 80's, especially the music. I never got to see many of the music videos for my favorite 80's musicians though, so something like this would be really cool.

As for the above comment about Golden Earring- I know White Lion did a remake of Radar Love in '89 that was pretty popular. But as far as the 80's go, Golden Earring's only hit was Twilight Zone in 1982. Golden Earring's version of Radar Love was released in 1973. As for that, the rest of their music was pretty crappy. I made the mistake of buying their greatest hits - which was let's see, oh yeah, Twilight Zone and Radar Love.
Yeah, and the reason there weren't three good songs on that disc is because they left off WHEN THE LADY SMILES, which was a great song and a great video.

TWILIGHT ZONE is still their best song and one of the best videos ever made......

DOH! You beat me to the punch. This is the DVD I'd love to see, I still have the VHS...somewhere. Don't know if I could find where it is if I had a gun to my head unfortunately. Definately my all-time favorite music video tape, with the Billy Idol "Vital Idol" being second, I got that for my sis back in the day. Actually, now that I recall, I had the DD "Decade" VHS too.

Darkflounder - that would be sweet. I'm going to keep an eye out for something like that. I'm glad to see other people appreciate Devo.

I have that VHS, too. It would be great to have that one released!

EMI is prepping a DVD release of Duran Duran's Greatest collection that was released on VHS a few years ago. Aside from a VCD import, this title was only available on VHS. It's being released sometime this Fall, although a definite release date is still pending.

It contains...

Planet Earth
Girls On Film (Uncensored)
The Chauffeur (Uncensored)
Hungry Like The Wolf
Save A Prayer
Rio
Is The Something I Should Know?
Union Of The Snake
New Moon On Monday
The Reflex
Wild Boys (Extended Version)
A View To A Kill
Notorious
Skin Trade
I Don't Want You Love
All She Wants Is
Serious
Burning The Ground
Ordinary World
Come Undone
Electric Barbarella

I would snag the 120M collection in a heartbeat if that ever became a reality. Great, great stuff.

I can see the video for R.E.M.'s So. Central Rain through the haze of my memory... ahhh.

Why can these companies not just transfer the old VHS to DVD? I want all my Cure switched to DVD instead of the pathetic "Greatest Hits" dvd I currently have. I want
The Cure - In Orange
The Cure - Staring at the Sea
Bauhaus - Shadow of Light
Love and Rockets - The Haunted Fish Bowl

The Bugles? Sigh. They were the Buggles! I've bougt hundreds of albums since but their first one is still one of my favourites. Two of them (Trevor Horn and Hans Zimmer) have gone on to win Academy awards.

While Hans Zimmer "collaborated" with Trevor Horn on The Age of Plastic album, but was never a formal part of the Buggles. Zimmer also worked with Ultravox and David Byrne in a similar collaborator/producer role.

He also produced the greatest Shriekback single ever: Nemesis!

Bougt? Sigh. It's bought!

Hans Zimmer and Warren Cann, the drummer for Ultravox, formed a duo called "Helden" and recorded an album. Unfortunately it was never properly released, and we folks in the Ultravox fan community have been crying for someone to release it ever since. Every couple of years it looks like it will finally see the light of day, then it doesn't.

I still have the Beta version. The Betamax machine still works, but I'd spring for a new DVD copy. I have lots of other 80s Beta and VHS tapes I'd love to see on DVD:
  • Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas
  • John Cougar Mellencamp - Ain't That America
  • Fleetwood Mac - (self titled documentary & live concert)
  • Blondie - Eat to the Beat

and numerous videos from:
  • Cinderella
  • L.A. Guns
  • Skid Row
  • Squeeze
  • Poison

I know a few of these have the odd DVD out, but I'd line up to buy re-issues of the old tapes.

Almost forgot (duh!) #1 want would be Warren Zevon's MTV concert (Sony issued it on VHS). They could even toss in the 2-3 individual videos he's done and I'd be a happy camper.

I would LOVE to see some INXS (concert) from Listen Like Thieves, and I REALLY wish they'd get U2's Under a Blood Red Sky out in a newly remastered DVD! Please, Bono?

I'd like to see the entire 12 hour Live Aid concert on DVD, but I'm sure it would be a nightmare to get the rights to all the songs. I also wouldn't mind seeing Urgh! A Music War make its way to DVD.

I really miss new wave punk music.

Actually, I recall the song Quiet Eyes, originally on the Golden Earing albim "The Hole", getting a lot of air play back in 1986. While it wasn't of the same quality as Twilight Zone, I think it was considered a hit.

Incidentally, Golden Earing has been around since the early 60's. Their discography is quite extensive and it is my understanding that they are very popular in Holland. I would tend to agree with you though, regarding the rest of their music. Definitely an aquired taste.
