I watched The Commitments in foolscreen last night

I rented this movie at my rental and popped the disc in last night, only to found that horrible "This movie has been re-formatted to fit your screen" crap. I was like at the moment, but I let myself watched it. What makes me sad is that the movie is very enjoyable and I'm watching it not in OAR.

That's a great movie. Along with 'Billy Elliot' and 'Full Monty' I enjoyed every moment of the film.

Can't wait. Great movie, and I haven't seen it so long.

Now all indications are to the effect that it will NOT be in its correct ratio. In fact, it won't be any different at all

I thought the new release was just going to be a reissue, with the same fullscreen transfer.

I'm new to the board, so forgive me if someone's already mentioned this in another thread, but I was poking around the 20th Century Fox store site and noticed that they list the August 19 Commitments release as widescreen. (http://www2.foxstore.com/detail.html?item=845). Although, like you, every indication I've seen is that it'll be full screen.

Anyone know anything about this?

The great thing about this movie is that everybody in it talks like Colin Ferrell. "Aye, we're getting a fookin' band together, ya know?"

Looks like I'm getting more mileage out of my r2, then. Sigh.

Crap. I would never understand why they treat good movie in such a bad way.

Well... poop! I was planning on ordering it tomorrow... guess not... that explains the lack of interest in my STL request thread.

Sorry, Mao.

Who knew Fox would be so stupid...twice?

I was gonna pick this up tomorrow at Best Buy, but not anymore.

This title has now been removed from my "to buy" list.

Rule One: No OAR = no purchase.

I have been waiting for this title for quite a while now. I guess I will have to order the benelux region 2 version which is in widescreen and is a special edition. It sounds like Fox just re-released the same version they put out a few years ago. Bummer!

Interestingly, There is a widescreen "Cinemascope" version of this DVD on Amazon's French site, but MGM is listed as the studio, not 20th Century Fox.

http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASI...492389-6313802

It's available in English Dolby Digital 5.1. Zone 2, naturally.

Why wouldn't this version be realeased in the US, too? Strange.
