any word on a Planet of the Apes SE?
I'm referring to the Charlton Heston version. I had heard a rumor that it might be getting a SE but that was a while ago. Any more word on it? This is a Sci-Fi classic and the current release sucks.

From DVDfile:
Looks like all the extras from the Image 2 disc set will be on this set.
Get yer stinkin' paws off me, you damn dirty ape! Yes, those crazy chimps are back. On February 3rd, Fox Home Entertainment will release a new 35th Anniversary Edition of the 1968 classic Planet of the Apes. What can fans expect this go-round? How about separate 4:3 full screen and (at last) a new 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen versions, each with a Dolby Digital 5.1 remix and so many extras it takes two discs to hold it all: two audio commentaries with Roddy McDowell, Natalie Trundy, Kim Hunter and effects artist John Chambers, plus a second commentary/isolated score with composer Jerry Goldsmith, a text commentary by Eric Greene, the "Behind The Planet Of The Apes" documentary, exclusive Roddy McDowall home movies, rare dailies and outtakes, the featurettes "A Look Behind The Planet Of The Apes," "Don Taylor Directs Escape from the Planet of the Apes," "J. Lee Thompson Directs Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" and the original EPK, multiple still galleries including photos, production art and film reviews, and trailers for all of the Apes flicks. Retail is $26.95.

Excellent!!! I've been waiting for a proper transfer of this film, I refused to buy the previous release. In a word, sold!
See how easy that was Fox? You should have done it right the first time around.

I'm glad I paid less than $10 for the first box set. I hope all the flicks get the redux treatment.

Ya know, looking at those extras doesn't bode well for the other films in the series getting Special Editions.
I mean, there's featurettes for other films in the series on this set, why include them here if more SE's are coming?
Hopefully what we'll get is re-releases of the other 4 movies in the set with anamorphic transfers.

At the very least, I'd like to see the others released seperately. I don't want to buy the box set and double dip on the better edition of the first movie.

I must've been asleep at the switch not to have noticed this was coming out until now. There goes my DVD diploma!
Personally as someone who DIDN'T lay down the cash for the box set or the Behind The Apes disc I'm really pleased to see this edition replace my bare-bones original release.. .But I can see getting pissed if I'd bought all the other releases and then this one forces you to triple-dip (?) if you're a real Apes fan. Wish they'd gotten Heston for the commentary though...

Search for 'planet of the apes' in this chat transcript from last week:

"I would like to get all our non anamorphic releases re issued in anamorphic discs, but the business man in me needs to be able to justify the expense. So I guess we'll see how well the POTA re issue sells before determining if we weill re issue all the other films in the series"
