No Never, Although last week, I did not BUY a movie because of the cover art. I was going to pick up Dante's Peak, but the new cover just suck, it looks like a B movie cover. I got ot find an old cover somewhere.

I'm sure that if i only bought on the basis of cover art then i would own the entire Criterion collection by now and as i don't that would pretty much suggest that i'm more concerned with what's on the shiny thing that is usually contained internally

I have to admit that when I'm not sure if a movie is any good I judge it by the cover .
Also I'm a sucker for box sets , put any movies of the genres I like as a set no matter how shitty they are , call is "The crap collection" and I'll be first in line to buy it ..

Never soley for the cover art. I must be interested in the content. Getting it at a great price doesn't hurt either.
Examples: Speed Racer, Pearl Harbor, and Repoman tin.

Usualy I do it with titles that are not expensive, but I actually didn't do it quite often, and I've been quite lucky since none have been boring one...
Usualy, I try to get a review (from dvdfile if possible), look at the features, the actors and then get it!..
I did it for : (canadian dolars)
Donnie Darko for 11,99$ (a good one)
Captain Corelli's Mandolin for 9,99$ pre-vis (not bad, good one for the GF)
The Posseidon Adventure for 10,99$ (not bad for the year, and some good acting)
The Ice Storm for 7,99$ (quite a good one actually)
Arlington Road for 7,99$ (not bad, but a little bit slow)
so out of 5, I would say that 3 are quite good and 2 are OK for the price!

Guilty. I bought the CC box set with 400 Blows in it, because the box was a suitcase and all the individual discs inside are pictures of shirts. So yeah, I popped $70 for it and I don't think I'll like the movies.

Anchor Bay and Artisan start reading this thread, the execs go "hmmm...", and all of a sudden every single release is in a rubber molded case!
Not sure if this counts, but a friend of mine bought the Spider-Man box set for the comic that came with it.
And I am very tempted to buy that Speed Racer set. Not because of the case, but because I want to hear that theme tune in DVD Audio!
