CANCELED - Fox Cancels GRAPES OF WRAITH

I called Fox Customer Service and they confirmed that Grapes of Wraith which was scheduled to be released 06/03 has been canceled. No future date was given nor reason. It will be replaced in the Sunrise DVD offer with The Song of Bernadette (1943).

This is disappointing news.

This is really one of my favorite film, great performance by Henry Fonda. Hopefully, Fox will released this sometime in the future.

Is "Grapes of Wraith" about a haunted winery?

Grapes of Wrath and now...

Laura. Why don't the studios provide a reason for delays on titles that are "must own"?

No grape ghost story and now no Grapes of Wrath? This, along with the Laura annoucement and me getting the flu has made this day not-so-happy.

Enemy Below was another unexplained, last minute cancellation. WTF(ox)! That 's 3 potential sales they lost out on by me this year.

There was a thread I read a while back that said Fox found better source material for The Grapes of Wrath, and were working to restore it. They said it would come out in 2004.
I really hope it's true.

Just a guess, maybe they don't think enough money will be made from selling those old movies? Or perhaps they are looking to do a better transfer or add more extras on the DVD?

If Fox is working...

on better transfers for Grapes and Laura it only makes sense to issue an official statement.

If that is the case mookiemeister, then I seriously doubt that FOX would have started the Studio Classics line at all & saved themselves a bunch of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!

on better transfers for Grapes and Laura it only makes sense to issue an official statement.
That makes perfect sense to us the buying public. For some reason the studios seem to want to keep the reasons for cancellations &/or delays a top secret. Being truthful with the buying public is I think a better policy. I think it would quell a lot of wild speculation & rumors.

I believe there was a rights problem of some sort in R1 Land. I have a R2 Japanese DVD of "The Enemy Below" with the FOX name all over it.

I know it is frustrating. . . but, this is one instance where it will be worth the wait. I too read several months ago that they came across much better source material and were putting the title on hold as a result. I am happy to wait if it means I get a better quality product.
