criterion adventures of antoine doinel impressions
just arrived at my office today. looks pretty good. i thought it was going to be in regular dvd cases; instead, it is like the godfather box set. each dvd in it's own paper case. a decent sized tome. i'm still very impressed w/ the overall design (i know some people didn't like the clothing theme). i like how the dvds carry that same design. very attractive.
finally, i can listen to the criterion commentary of 400 blows.
back description lists:
Stunning new digital transfers...
A multitude of rare interviews w/ Truffaut...
Les Mistons
Trailers
72 page book
New and improved English subtitles translations
Much more!

I'm still waiting for mine to arrive from Amazon. Can't wait to watch the two films in the set I haven't seen...
Truffaut's really one of the best....
I'm quite fond the clothing-themed cover-art... on that note, I can't really recall a Criterion package with which I've ever been disappointed.

Has anyone seen all these films and can give a very brief recommendation? It sure is expensive, and I'm not sure how much I'll enjoy the later films. How do they stack up to other Truffaut films?

I think the cover art is excellent, but I really wish the cases were those slim plastic cases like the new Twilight Zone discs come in. They take up the same amount of room but are plastic and they close.
Has anyone noticed that the inside of the box/suitcase has lining that looks like the inside of a suitcase? What attention to detail!
I watched 400 Blows last night and the anamorphic picture quality is SUPERB. Best 2.35 B&W DVD I've seen.

btw, it took very careful pulling to remove 2!!! of those crappy sensormatics tags. i'm buying them from an on-line store... why do they have those? unless they send me a sensor gate for my door...

The films are comedic, romantic, coming-of-age tales (each one takes you through a phase of Antoine's life).
I recently saw them all in order via a film class and after Stolen Kisses was in love with Antoine and enjoyed the other 2 films tremendously. The last film Love on the Run seems to be the one folks are most split on, you either love it or hate it.
Did that help at all? Sorry to not be more specific but they're kinda hard to describe. If you like the character from the first film I think you'll find the other films enjoyable as well
How's that, better? LOL.

As I posted elsewhere, while I appreciate the artwork and attention to detail and think it is cool, I would prefer them all in keepcases so they uniformly fit in with other criterions.
Just my 2 cents...

Yeah, I'm not too fond on the cases, but I've been waiting forever to see these films!!
I'm a big fan of French film of the era, and so it's pitiful that I've never seen a single Truffaut film... but now I've got these and Day for Night sitting on the shelf.
Now we just need a good release of Breathless and Jules and Jim!
