Ghost in the Shell is classic and certainly not cutsy ... and Lain should be right up your alley as a bit of a dark, psycho thriller.

You might be interested in Hellsing. It's a 13 episode series with vampires in it. Very stylish but the plot is minimal.

If you want dark, you might want to try Serial Experiments Lain or Boogiepop Phantom. There's going to be a Limited Edition set for Boogiepop Phantom coming out on 6/17. It contains the 4 dvds, a box, a 2-disc soundtrack, an inspired by BPP cd, and some other extras. It's only going to be sold at Best Buy & Right Stuf.

When I was a kid I remeber seeing a dubbed anime space movie that I've haven't been able to find any info on.

It had a big robot named Dynamo, and I think the pilot drove his car into the robot to start it up. He has to rescue some girl/prinecess from the bad guy. That's really all I remember about it.
