Gleaming the Cube DVD
I picked up a supposed very rare and opened copy of Gleaming the Cube on DVD yesterday. I only looked because I saw on Ebay that somebody was going to pay $400 for it and that it was out-of-print.
So I saw it at a local store for $15.99. I immediately picked it up. Turns out it the 1999 release and not the 2001 release, which I believe the 1999 release is rarer.
I look on amazon.com and half.com and this guy is trying to sell a sealed copy for $1300. What's going on? I've seen this movie. It sucks. It's a bad 80's movie. Why is this DVD so rare and expensive? Did they only make like 50 copies or something? Is there something in the movie that's amazing or what?
Somebody please tell me the history of this DVD. O yeah, I am also selling it for a low price of $300

I think this was the first really quality skating movie, and there haven't been many made of consquence since then.
Still, I'd own it if it were on sale, I"m just not going to spend 4 car payments on the goddamn thing!

Anyways, I paid $110 US for it and its strictly an investment...I really have no idea what this movie is all about and nor do I intend to watch it. I did hear it isn't very good.
Anyways, im glad I was able to get a great deal (considering it is mint condition and these DVDs go upwards of $500) and you were able to get your DVD burner now, rather than later.
Just be careful what you say next time....you might not know whos watching.
Now, I just got to wait several months to unload this through Amazon or Ebay to one of those "OOP morons" you spoke of for double or triple of what I paid

I just started a thread on this last week! Anyway, it will be probably be released again and the oop will be worthless. I have no knowledge of two different versions(R1) though. Just the R2 and the oop R1?

I believe the first version is the theatrical limited DVD release whereas the recent version was changed by the director to have the cops towards the end holding skateboards instead of guns.
I could be wrong though.
BTW, great teen flick, along with that BMX movie called RAD.
