Would anyone know if they would be doing a free "Two towers" DVD with a KIA test drive again?

gcribbs 05-02-03 01:37 AM

Both versions :)

I am going to pass on the gift set again although I do expect my brother to get it again.

Tha Freak 05-02-03 09:04 AM

Well I had both the first time, but since I got the EE, I never watched the TC anymore...

And since I have the screener on DVD (looks quite OK to me)...it will make me hold on until the EE...

Does anyone have a clue what will be the gift set?...

cos' last year, my parents wanted to get it for me for x-mass, but since I had it, they got me something else...I told them that they could get me TTT one if it's a good one...

If not, I will ask them to get me "Alien Quadrilogy"... :D

javanut 05-02-03 09:58 AM

I havent' read anything about the gift set. But the FOTR gift set had (paraphrased from LOTR.net):

*a new version of the acclaimed National Geographic DVD on the making of The Fellowship of the Rings
*a gorgeous set of polystone Pillars of Argonath bookends from Sideshow and Weta
*exclusive Lord of the Rings trading cards
*wide-screen four-disc DVD set that includes 30 minutes of extra footage
*new music by Howard Shore
* cast commentaries
*special on adapting the book
*Weta Workshop visit
*"From Vision to Reality" feature
*208 minutes in length

What do you think we might get with TTT?

Spiky 05-02-03 04:26 PM

You forgot a TTT movie ticket in the first run.

atimoc 05-02-03 05:30 PM

My plan is to get the extended edition, maybe even the gift set if the goodies are interesting. I had the same plan last year but I broke down and bought the 2-disc version too...

javanut 07-25-03 04:10 PM

Bump!

The release is coming up. I'm absolutely craving a first glance at ROTK. By my count, that happens in 32 days with the release of the Theatrical Edition.

jekbrown 07-25-03 05:20 PM

Ill be getting the EE the day it comes out at Walmart (hopefully along with a ticket for RotK)... blind purchase. The EE of FotR was so fantastic that I have faith in Jackson and his team when it comes to recutting the film. I really liked SB as Boromir, so it will be cool to see him again in the flashback sequence in TT:EE... and even a little more Gimli would be worth the wait for the EE... he rules! :)

I'm excited about the introduction of Denethor in the EE. Very cool that they're introducing a new ROTK character in the extended edition.

MisterHowie 07-25-03 07:46 PM

Extended all the way. I thought it might be overlong (the EE for Fellowship) but it was excellent and considering that you are watching at home, you can take breaks.

atari2600 07-25-03 09:36 PM

theatrical and EE - i cant wait for just the EE :)

Commander Dan 07-25-03 10:20 PM

Like so many others, I have both the Theatrical and Extended Edition of The Fellowship of the Ring, since I test-drove a Kia (actually I just showed-up at the dealership) for the free Theatrical edition DVD. I then purchased the EE later, and actually, I considered dumping my Theatrical Edition of LOTR, but I decided to keep it, mainly for the Enya video, which is not on the EE.

Unless someone has a similar promo this time around, I will only get the EE of The Two Towers.

Corleone316 07-25-03 11:52 PM

I'm getting EE for Christmas.

javanut 07-28-03 09:00 AM

Ain't It Cool reviewed the Extended Edition and reveals a lot more of the extra scenes.

Very, very cool: http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=15741

The Exister 07-28-03 11:08 AM

Pre-ordered my EE from amazon with STL. If I don't get it exactly on the release date, no biggie...

DJ_Longfellow 07-28-03 01:18 PM

I actually have BOTH versions Pre-Ordered; however, I will probably trade/sell the theatrical when I get my EE version....

javanut 07-28-03 05:10 PM

Do some sites have better histories about getting DVDs to those that pre-order on the release dates than others?

mwj 07-28-03 08:50 PM

I was unable to resist the spoilers and the EE sounds spectacular. I will only buy the EE.

danwiz 07-28-03 09:12 PM

Both theatrical and EE editions - in fact both of them are already pre-ordered. I too have the screener, but I'll throw that in the garbage when I get the real one, I hate the "For your consideration" which shows up all over the place.

Don't mind buying both when a director tells us right from the start that there are going to be 2 versions, but hate it when they keep it a secret and force you into buying the first release because they make you THINK it's going to be THE ONLY ONE!

javanut 08-06-03 10:53 AM

The One Ring posted more EE spoilers for those who are interested. The info's from comingsoon.net

I can't freakin' wait for this.

Movie_Man 08-06-03 11:09 AM

Due to all the rave reviews, I FINALLY bought the EE of FOTR and sold off my theatrical copy. Watched it last night, and it really is better with lots of subtle details. This time around I'm just getting the EE of the Two Towers, and I'm really excited about seeing Return of the King. Unlike many teenage boys, I did not read the books so I really don't know how it all ends up.
This is almost as bad as waiting 3 years to see what happened to Han Solo after Empire Strikes Back came out.

javanut 08-06-03 06:34 PM

I feel like this is worse!

I got both versions last time and will do the same this time. i'll preorder the EE, but will probably get the theatrical through a discount deal, like the blockbuster promotion.

Revoltor 08-06-03 10:50 PM

Got the FOTR:EE last week. Wow. So much better of a movie.

My opinion of FOTR went from "meh" to "Holy crap!"

Just goes to show you that better pacing makes a better movie.

That said I'm definitely getting TTT:EE. My dad equally fell in love with the EE over the theatrical.

javanut 08-07-03 09:54 AM

I agree, I like my EE better than the theatrical, but I love the trailers that are on the FOTR theatrical. Trailers and the ROTK first-look are the real reason I'll get the TTT theatrical.

Me, too. I never watch the Theatrical version anymore.
