Nice clips, this movie is one of two Spanish language movies that I will be picking up in the next month (the other being Talk to Her (Habla Con Ella), which will be released on May 13).

This disk has removable subtitles, and even subtitles in Spanish (not common for a Spanish language movie), plus:

Commentary by director and actor
Theatrical trailer(s)
Photo gallery
Poster exploration
Making-of featurette

I'm wondering about the commentary tracks. If they are in Spanish, did they include subtitles for the commentary track? Remember Y Tu Mama Tambien, which didn't have subtitles for their Spanish language commentary track (and the Spanish was filled with Mexican slang, hard to follow).

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the commentary on The Crime of Padre Amaro does not have english subtitles, I just don't get the point of putting it on a region 1 release if its not going to be usable by about 60% of the population.

The commentary track does have subtitles. There are 4 options on the disc:

1. English
2. French
3. Spanish
4. English - Commentary

I have some screen caps but I can't get my webpage to open right now so I can't host them. If anybody else can, let me know.

You're right Crashman.

Allmovie has a list of the control options ( http://www.allmovie.com/cg/avg.dll?p=avg&sql=RE|36612 ), and under Special Features is this option:

Special Features
--- Director Carlos Carrera and Actor Commentary: On
--- Director Carlos Carrera and Actor Commentary: Off

I still can't seem to get the pictures posted but they're available if you want to see them. I just took 3 quick ones at the beginning and they aren't the most obvious.

I read a thread somewhere that mentioned maybe it was a player specific problem so I checked the disc on four of my players. I got the commentary subs on all four;

Panasonic CP-67, Sony FX-1, Apex 1500 and the DVD drive on my laptop.

And by the way... Yes, it's a really good film. Check it out.

If you are on a limited budget, and keeping in mind that I've not seen either movie yet but have read numerous reviews and articles about them, I would wait for "Talk To Her", directed by Pedro Almodovar (to be released on May 13).

I rented this DVD this weekend. I was able to read the commentary's subtitles on 2x speed, so I got done with the commentary in half the time.

The girl who played Amelia es muy caliente! Can't blame Father Amaro for straying from his vow of celibacy with her...
