The Decalogue is shipping!!!
Facets
At $80 the 3-disc set isn't a bargain at all but oh is it worth it. It's the same transfer as the original release so it looks as though everybody got excited for nothing. THeir web page says it is not yet release but rest assured it is shipping. Here are the specs:
Disc 1: "Roger Ebert on The Decalogue" a 15min introduction by Roger Ebert. From the back of the box:"Informaive and helpful, this onscreen introduction summarizes the impact of the series and then points out key moments in individual episodes that resonate with meaning". The copyright on this is 2001.
Decalogue 1-3
Disc 2: Decalogue 4-7
Disc 3: Decalogue 8-10
"On the Set of the Decalogue", three minute documentary on the making of the decalogue. "Kieslowski answers questions while on the set during the production of The Decalogue. Hear the director describe his masterpiece in his own words." Copyright 1988.
"Kieslowski Meets the Press" a 41 min documentary. "The director responds to questions and statements from the entertainment press in this interview program made for Polish television. Kieslowski discusses The Decalogue, reveals his artistic process and ponders moral queries tossed to him by reporters." Copyright1988
"Kieslowski:Known and Unknown" a 15 min documentary. "Colleagues and friends offer insights and observations about Kieslowski in this remembrance produced after the director's death. Among those interviewed are cast and crew members from The Decalogue, including actors Artur Barcis and Maria Pakulnis and cinematographer Piotr Sobocinski. Other members of the Polish film industry, including director Krzyszstof Zanussi, remark on his influence and contributions." Copyright 1998.
The set also comes with a booklet, which contains "An Introduction by Krzysztof Kieslowski", which is a reprint of the introduction from the published screenplay. Copyright 1991. There is also "Heaven: An Interview with Krzysztof Piesiewicz", in which Piesiewicz talks about the origins of the Decalaogue. Copyright 2002

Was hoping this new facets release would feature an improved transfer in relation to the original release.
Guess i'll hold off purchasing this now and stick with my R2 Artificial Eye releases which have an improved transfer over the Facets release despite not containing as many supplements as this new release.
Was also hoping that the full length versions of 'A Short Film About Killing' and 'A Short Film About Love' would have been included in this new boxset.

I have the original boxset with the crappy transfer and two snappers. Since the new Decalogue has the same transfer and doesn't have the full length versions of "A Short Film About Killing" and "A Short Film About Love," I'm going to keep the original. The supplements in the new set aren't that necessary if you buy "Kieslowski on Kieslowski" or "Double Lives, Second Chances." If they had also included the documentary, "Kieslowski: I'm So-So" I may have also considered double dipping on this one.

Hmmmm... it was my understanding that this was to be a new transfer with new (and removeable) subtitles.
I appreciate the extra features, but I'm more interested in the feature itself, particularly as these are easily my favorite Kieslowski films.
I hope you're wrong, Portlandfilmguy, I hope you're wrong...

is it possible portlandfilmguy, you saw an "authorization" charge on your credit card and assumed it was the actual charge and that the set was shipping out now? b/c, I just received this email from facets, and they said it will begin shipping in August ---

Thanks for your email.
DECALOGUE is coming back out in August. You can, if you like, place a
pre-order now so that a copy will be shipped to you in August. It is
becoming entirely possible (given the large number of orders we're taking)
that all of the incoming copies may already be spoken for by the time they
arrive.
Thanks again,

I'm also disappointed to hear that the new versions will use the same transfers. I was fortunate to find a copy of the old 3 disc set at Borders for under $30 some time ago. I have considered selling the old/rebuying the new versions, but a few supplements are not worth the additional cost for me.

just so there's no question, this is the reply i got from Facets regarding the transfer... actually it DOES raise a question, why did they say "exactly the same"... i thought they added supplements.

No sense in "upgrading" the current release for a few features, and especially not for $80. I know Facets releases are expensive, and I expected this one to be as well, but I distinctly remember the claim that "new transfers" and "new sub translations" would be on the new set.
This ranks as among the most disappointing DVD news I've heard this year.
