Why no Widescreen for "Flight of the Phoenix"?

I was dismayed to find that the soon-to-be released DVD of one of my favourite movies "Flight of the Phoenix" is going to be only on 4:3 'Fullscreen' format! I cannot understand why Fox are doing this, unless the film was released in that format in the cinemas. This seems highly unlikely for an 'outdoor' type movie made in 1965. Does anyone know the answer?

This is from DVDFile on March 3:

...Six more library gems will also be released, each presented in their original aspect ratios: 300 Spartans, From the Terrace (includes a MovieTone newsreel), The Long Hot Summer (featuring the AMC Backstory special plus 2 MovieTone Newsreels), Brubaker, The Hot Rock and The Flight of the Phoenix. All include a trailer gallery and retail for $14.95.
IMDb says the the OAR is 1.85:1.

What source says the disc will be fullscreen?

Apparently, Foxstore.com says so and several other sources, particularly in Europe are saying the same thing. It could be that Foxstore made a mistake and the others are simply following suit. From the info given by you, this seems a distinct possibility. At least I hope so. Thanks for giving us some hope.

I hope it's a mistake. When shown on television, the opening titles are letterboxed at 1.85:1.

The studios are really starting to make me angry.

Ok gang don't just sit on your hands, Monday I will be calling Fox and voicing my opposition to this Pan & Scam release. Remeber we made Warner Bros. relent on "Willy Wonka". Simply put No widescreen, NO SALE.

I believe it has been shown letterboxed on the Fox Movie Channel, so a letterboxed master exists. Let's hope that the early reports were wrong.

At DeepDiscountDVD, they list "Restoration comparison" among the special features for this disc. Why would Fox brag about their restoration work on a pan and scan disc?

I'm guessing "fullscreen" is a typo....Fingers crossed.
