Is John Carpenter's The Thing Anamorphic now?

I've been tempted for awhile to pick up the Collector's Edition of The Thing, but have held off since it's non-anamorphic. A friend of mine bought the DVD this week and told me he was surprised to find it listed as being 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen on the disc (not the back cover, however). My question: Is this a printing error, or has the DVD been quietly upgraded to anamorphic? Can someone who owns this DVD please let me know for sure?
From what I recall, copies of 'The Thing' were being given away as a promotion for the video game of the same name, and the packaging was mislabeled to say 'anamorphic widescreen'. It's the same disc as the previous release in different packaging.
I can confirm that it's the same non-anamorphic disc as before.
Though not a bad transfer, anamorphic enhancement would have really raised the bar for this disc. Maybe one day...

I agree. This would be one of my favorite discs if it were anamorphic. Oh well like you said, maybe one day...
I figured as much. It's too bad the studios can't be bothered to do such upgrades once and awhile. There are some very nice DVD's with great extras just begging to be anamorphically enhanced. With a DVD like The Thing, that's about all they would need to do to make it perfect. Too bad, maybe there will be an Ultimate Edition to look forward to sometime in the future. Thanks for the confirmation, guys.
anamorphic would be nice
