Wow. Glad I held on to mine. It's a port from the LD. Too bad this film hasn't been given a good DVD treatment yet.

Outre magazine, #30 (the next-to-most-recent issue, I think -- with a red-hued "Atomic Paranoia" cover) has two great articles about this flick. There's a 6-page interview with director Jones and a 4-page essay on the flick by Ellison. Both pieces are, to my knowledge, brand spanking new.
Anyway, Jones claims near the end of the interview that he's doing a full restoration on the flick, for a theatrical re-release to be followed by a new DVD version. Jones talks like it's a done-deal that's already underway, but I get the feeling it might never actually happen. We can hope.
In the meantime, the OOP Slingshot DVD or the LD are the best there is -- the DVD is indeed an LD port, but as such its quality is not as bad as some have claimed. (It's NOT great ... but NOT atrocious ... decent for an unrestored cult film of its age). Seeing as how it seems like at least a 2-year wait for any potentially superior release, I'd recommend the DVD or LD of this excellent movie to anyone who can pick them up at a reasonable price.

I'd love to see a Special Edition or even just a re-release of this movie. Until then though, I'm stuck without it because there's no way I'm paying the insane prices it's fetching online.
