Like many people here, I'm glad I failed to get Rebecca and Notorious over the holidays :-)

I have wanted to get the Kurosawa set but it hasn't been extremely high on my list. I have had the Hitchcock set on pre-order for about a month now. I can't wait to get it. Iam hoping that they will re-release the Kurosawa with the new subs. If they do then I will go get it the day it's released.

I am going to buy the Hitchcock set. I saw a few posts over at the Criterion Forum that said the box sets were being put out to encourage sales of certain titles within them that were selling quite poorly. Obviously Criterion will make more money putting SS(One of their best sellers) with the other Kuro films which don't sell at the same level.

The same thing goes for the Hitchcock films. Most likely they are aware that the only have them for a shortened amount of time and want to sell as many as possible.

Too bad they still can't release the Tati's or Woo Films ....

I want a second Kurosawa box set featuring:

High & Low
Rashomon
Red Beard
Throne of Blood

An Ingmar Bergman set would be welcomed (The Seventh Seal, Autumn Sonata, The Magic Flute, Cries & Whispers & Wild Strawberries) and I'd love a Fellini set (Amarcord, And the Ship Sails On, 8 1/2, Nights of Cabiria, Juliet of the Spirits & The White Shiek).

I'd also love to see the Samurai Trilogy collected in a nice box. I still have my VHS box set which I'm planning on replacing eventually.

Finally, I'd like to have David Lean's films as a set (Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, Summertime, Brief Encounter)

It wouldn't help me because I already have them, but a Rene Clair box set would seem to make sense -- A Nous la Liberte, Le Million and Under the Roofs of Paris. Would be much more manageable economically and size-wise than some of the others they're making...

My vote:

A Terry Gilliam set (Time Bandits, Brazil [yeah, the 3-disk one... although this time, package it in slim cases like the Monterey Pop set], Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, and perhaps even Monty Python's Life of Brian).

Makes me really long for a Criterion Baron Munchausen DVD, but that'll be the day.

Based on sales figures at various etailers, I think a Samurai Trilogy box set is the mostly likely to happen... or an East European set
(The Shop on Main Street; Closely Watched Trains; Loves of a Blonde; The Fireman's Ball.) Of couse, a Tati set would be great, if Criterion ever get the rights back.

I forgot about that. I've seen it before and it is sweet. I've been holding off on buying the 3 dvds in favor of other purchases and when Criterion started announcing the box sets I got hopeful that they'd be combined and the price reduced. I'm sure I'll wait a while longer, end up buying the 3 separately and then Criterion will announce the box set the next day.

That's my major reason for wanting these as sets. The box is a nice bonus in my mind.

Actually, as a Criterion completist, I hate these box sets.

I tend to already have all the films before the box sets come out. But, being a completist, do I also get the box set as well as the individual titles?

Well, since I am about 60 titles shy of completing my Criterion collection, I'm not gonna worry about it right now.

Who knows... by the time I complete my collection, I might just welcome buying the box sets so I can scratch my Criterion jones.

Great idea, if they ever re-do Brazil with an anamorphic transfer, they should also re-do the package in that style.
