For me, first place it's Criterion. They care about the same kind of stuff I do. They work with the film makers, or try to get the movie as close to the film maker's desires as possible. They have lots of extras too, they kind I normally like. Packaging is always nice, with NO critic quote BS. I'd love all my favorite movies to be like that

Second place for me would be Dreamworks I think. Their discs normally look really nice and have lots of extras.

Man, if Criterion did all the dvd's I wanted I would be really broke after spending so much on some films I really only care about the film itself and don't want to deal with the extra stuff. Not to mention the criterion price range for each disc.. Ouch.

Anchor Bay, none other. I think they are much better then Criterion in terms of suppliment and transfer. They surely beat MGM as well.

Criterion, of course. Else, DreamWorks has some very nice DVDs.

I love Criterion also..TRAFFIC, COMPLETE MONTEREY POP FESTIVAL are outstanding. Just baught the new STRAW DOGS and it's another winner!

Criterion would be a dream, but too costly in the long run.

I would say New Line Platium Series (circa Boogie Nights and Se7en and the Cell and LOTR) or Fox (circa Fight Club). They seem to put out more quality products.

As long as it's not an Infinifilm (I hate the logo on top part of the front cover and Friday after next is just a crappy disc. You'd be suprised how many I see return from being crack on one side of the disc and not cracked on the other. You could just peel the layers apart the glue was so weak. Since its release date, I've shipped out about 10-15 copies back to the vendor, and that's just one store.

Any company that didn't play games and released DTS, Widescreen, extended editions with good transfer at the same time they released the standard edition that so many of us trade later.

I know they re-released Stargate but one thing I have to give them points for in the last re-release is they had both the director's cut and theatrical release in the same case. I'm sure there are plenty of others but would love it if all came that way.

I got the re-release of Amadeus but was dissappointed it only had the extended one, since it is really quite different from the theatrical release. The second disc has what some DVD people appreciate - the commentary and bonus info but I would gladly trade that for the theatrical release. It seems ashame I have to buy both.

Criterion's just so damn classy, but too expensive. If they priced everything like their upcoming Night and Fog disc, it'd be great. That said...

I'd pick Fox--even their non-deluxe editions are nice (like One Hour Photo), and their SE's are great.

Madacy has been pushing out some quality discs recently.

New Line, hands down. My 2nd choice would be Fox. Last place would have to be Sony, only because I'd have to repurchase every DVD I bought from them.

I'll take Artisan. My primary reason for choosing them is because they include OAR and P&S versions in their packaging (at least for the discs I recently purchased). Even with the extra disc, the price is right on their releases.

Why do I love putting both versions in one package?

- I don't have to pay attention to the packaging to make sure I get the OAR release.
- I have both versions available to me so I can show people who don't like OAR what they're missing by showing them a scene on each disc.
- I can let those who still don't like OAR watch the version they prefer instead of hearing them complain about the black bars.

Every studio needs to start doing this...

Go ahead and laugh but Warner would be my choice. They led the way with dvd and they lead the way with restorations. IMO Warner does (or commissions) better restorations for classics than any other studio. North by Northwest. Citizen Kane. Other studios have jumped on the digital bandwagon but Warner did it first. The quality is usually excellent and the prices is always reasonable. People gripe about their catalog output but I prefer quality to quanity.
I'm not fond of snappers but they are mana from heaven next to those damn digipacks. I really despise those miserable things. Unfortunately, it seems that crap is becoming the standard.

I like Anchor Bay, but they'd be at the bottom of the barrel since they tend to re-release every movie at least 3 times.

New Line. A company like New Line gives about shmidt a DTS track and Jason X lots of extras, and Paramount didn't give the highest grossing film ever (titanic) extras or an anamorphic transfer!

New Line was my immediate thought when reading the thread title, as well. I've been very pleased with every title of theirs I've purchased. Dreamworks is right up there as well.

Criterion always does a terrific job, but you pay for their name on the box more than I think it's really worth.

Who needs extras and trailers when you get remixed 5.1 soundtracks that sound JUST like 2.0 mixes!!!!

And those prices! Can't be beat!
