Cast Away - Oar?

I'm getting a sinking feeling here.

I have been intending to get the 2-disc set of CAST AWAY (with Tom Hanks). It appears that it's on the verge of going OOP, and a new single-disc version has been released, with less extras. I rented it a long time ago and seem to remember it being 2.35:1 and this is also how AMAZON.COM lists it (usually ships in 1 to 3 weeks - uh oh). While shopping at CostCo today, I saw the new disc, and it is listed as 1.85:1. WTF?

Is this what we are going to get now? Continually changing aspect ratios? Bad mojo! VERY BAD!!!

If my memory is flawed, (along with AMAZON's listing), i'm sorry, but I've got a bad feeling about this........

I recall it being 1.85 when I rented it, and IMDB also has it listed as such. Although I don't own the DVD, so you might want to hear from someone who does.

Ok, the mystery is solved...

I decided to check eBay, and out of a dozen auctions I looked at, half listed the disc at 2.35:1 and the other half listed it at 1.85:1. (I smelled a conspiracy...)

However, I decided to check what I consider the final word (for the most part) in cases like these, the DVD TALK review section and I found this bit - "although it does say the film is 2.35:1 on the back of the box, it's actually 1.85:1 (oops!)"

While I was sure that the film was 2.35:1 when I rented it, (maybe it was just because it was stated on the box), it looks as if the mystery has been solved.

On to another question, for those who own the 2-disc set. The single disc release contains the anamorphic transfer, 6.1 DTS, and the commentary by Robert Zemeckis and crew. Is it worth the extra money for the Charlie Rose Show interview with Tom Hanks, HBO FIRST LOOK, trailer, storyboards, etc?

Just looking for opinions.............

I have the 2-disc set, which I got from Circuit City for $12.99, which was actually cheaper than the one disc for a week. You can still find the 2-disc pretty cheap, I think. Some sellers at Amazon even have it for cheaper than the 1-disc. I'd say it's worth it, especially since it's going OOP.

It's always been 1.85:1 - in theaters and on DVD. Just a packaging misprint.

As for the 2-disc set. If you really like the film, and think it'd be interesting to see some info on its creation, definitely go for the 2-disc. The Tom Hanks interview with Charlie Rose is good, and some (but not all) of the other material is good too.

It's definitely 1.85:1. The cover must've been a misprint.

I remember this being a big deal when Cast Away was first released on DVD. &nbsp According to IMDB the correct aspect ratio is 1.85:1.
