Bought a used DVD.... with that ugly Blockbusters transparent cd/dvd sticker that covers the entire disk... anyway to remove it (or would I ruin the disk if I tried)?
Thx!

I know that some people use Goo-B-Gone, or something like that. I haven't been able to find it in stores, but apparently it is available at Walmart.
Hope this helps...

It's called Goo Gone
Also available @:
~or~ Manufacturer Web Site
It's not hard to find & it works GREAT!
It works on all sorts of stickers. I've found that if I have a tough one, then I cover the sticker with an ample amount of Goo Gone and let it soak for about 20 minutes. Sticker and residue come off easily.
Once you buy this stuff, you'll find a ton of crap that you can use it on.

I once got a game for free from a friend who worked at Hollywood Video (similar to Blockbuster) cause they were throwing them out, but it had a Hollywood Video sticker on it. I took it off gently and the CD art came right off with it. You could see right through the disc, and so could the laser on my dreamcast.... (it didnt work) BE CAREFUL!

I got mine off!
Okay, got some tips from another source
I took a blowdryer and heated up the sticker, then just peel it off. There were some sticky residue still, so I used GooGone and removed those.
Voila, the DVD is good as new!

Use a blowdryer. Get the sticker really hot and it will peel right off. I've had this work about a dozen times and fail once. It peeled the art off of my Training Day DVD. I checked and it appeared to still play alright but the disc has no resale value.

Goo Gone is definitely the best method: extremely easy and effective. I'm usually skeptical about "miracle products," but after hearing raves about Goo Gone here, I bought a bottle of it, and man, the stuff works like a charm. I always used to end up with little scuffs and fingernail marks in the cases from trying to peel stickers off (even if I was lucky and didn't leave any sticky behind), but the Goo Gone works like a charm. Just leave it to soak in for a while on really tough, thick stickers for maximum ease of peeling off.
I've used it fairly often already, and a little seems to go a long way; at this rate one bottle will probably last 10 years!

Good old fashioned Lighter Fluid works just great! Removes all those sticky labels which you have trouble getting off. I don't even have a Zippo Lighter, but I've had a can of Zippo Lighter Fluid for years just for those ugly sticky things!

Despite the fact someone said it can easily be removed without goo gone if you go slowly, DO NOT TRY THAT. I used to work at Blockbuster, and those stickers are designed to DESTROY the disc when removed (that is why they are put on the data side) as a way to deter theft (you can't re-sell it if you ruin it). In fact, when I quit Blockbuster a back in October, we were told to no longer use thos stickers, as the company had had several successful claims against them that almost went to court that basically proved those stickers were ruining DVD and game system drives beause they unbalanced the discs.

I remove the ones from the snapper case too, as long as your careful, they come off just fine. I may do an example later. Hell, I'll do some of the ones you get from EB Games and we know those are ugly!

Um, I worked at Blockbuster for a long time and we used heat guns and rubbing alcohol for the ones on cds and just a heat gun for the ones on snappers. Rubbing alcohol or goo gone on snappers can take the color right off of them...
