I so want to join, but I just don't think I would have the time to view all the movies it would take to make it worth the 20 bucks a month. It's a great deal for those that take advantage of it.

Well, Bechman, if your video store charges $4 per rental (which I think is the going rate at most BlockBusters and Hollywood Videos), you only need to view at least 5 rentals from Netflix to get your money's worth each month. Even if you're getting 6 movies for $20, you still come out ahead.

I usually go through 10 Netflix rentals each month, which averages about $2.00 per DVD rental. I think that's a great deal compared to the video chains.

I usually go through 3 a week, watching mostly on weekends, so I get about 12 a month. Considering that most I couldn't have rented locally and would have ended up buying them, I more than save enough to justify it.

Other factors to include in the equation are the selection of titles that aren't available at your local Blockbuster (I sure couldn't find Brazil a couple years ago), and the late fees (or lack thereof).
Plus it saves me a special trip over the video store. There are mailboxes everywhere.

Three words: No Late Fees.

Plus, I think its a bargain, I see more quality movies, and playing around with your queue is fun.

My thought exactly. I think Netflix is great if you like renting (as opposed to buying everything that comes out). It's convenient, you don't have to go out to the store, they always have the latest movies, you simply drop the movies in the mailbox when you're finished. For me it's ultra-quick, I've put movies in my queue on Friday evening and have them in my mail on Saturday.

And late fees.....I'm the queen of late fees, Hollywood and Blockbuster probably paid the salaries of a few employees on late fees. I just sent back some movies that I've had for a month, have let friends watch, no late fee. It's perfect for me, it may work for you also.

For me, Netflix is less of a cost saving service than a premium service that I'm willing to pay for. I think about it in terms of Blockbuster, my rental alternative. Would I pay 1 to 2 bucks for someone to wait in line to rent, then make the drive to return it? Absolutely, especially since it means I don't have to pay late fees or deal with annoying sales clerks.

I've been renting a lot of TV lately. Good way to catch up on shows without having to spend a lot for the box sets. Currently, I am working my way through Deep Space 9 Season 2

So, how many people actually save money, versus visiting to your local video store.
Considering I average much less than $2/disc with Netflix as opposed to $3 Blockbuster or $4 Hollywood, that's a good savings.

Or in a broader sense, to see stuff that you wouldn't shell out $4 at Blockbuster to see.

The only thing that I don't like about Netflix is that you don't rent a movie you rent the disc. What i mean is that if there is a 2-disc set, like many are, each disc counts as a rental. I learned this the hard way when I thought I had rented Snatch but instead I just rented the Bonus Disc with all the extras, which was pretty useless to me without the actual movie. This really is a minor complaint, i still love netflix. I just wish the two disc packages counted as one rental, since they are so common.

I agree, but at the very least they should send you both discs if the movie is spread out that way. For example, Lawrence of Arabia is 2 rentals. However, Pearl Harbor is 1 rental. Go figure.

I just signed up, I'm REALLY excited to see some movies I've been wanting to see and not buy, and Criterion movies and the like that just cost more than I can pay right now. I'm doing the 3 at a time dealy.
