Actually, the pics I've seen of the box look really thin. Unless it's only a mock-up, the only kind of packaging I've seen that could be that thin and hold nine discs would be the DS9 case Paramount used.

^^^Agreed. To pass on the Ultimate Aliens box set just because you only like one or two movies of the four is just stupid. Like per example above, to pass on an Ultimate 6-disc box set of say the Matrix movies, just because I don't like Reloaded is just stupid.
IMO, it's more akin to collectibility. Or perhaps completists. Let's say Lucas decides to put out a Super Duper box set of all 6 Star Wars movies, and let's say I don't really care for Phantom Menace, am I going to pass this set up just because I don't like all 6 movies? Not hardly. The point being is that we're getting (with the Alien set) 2-discs devoted to each movie as compared to only 1 now with the Legacy set, and with all new cuts of all of the films (minus the already available SE of Aliens) plus a bonus 9th disc containing the Legacy featureette plus I'd asume additional extras covering all the films. |

I say to tell someone they should waste money on films they don't like just so they can have a box set is stupid. Quite frankly, Alien3 and Alien 4 suck ass in my opinion. I'm not spending that amount of money on two discs, and waste money buying two films I'll never watch even once. I'll pass on this box set and keep my Alien and Aliens DVDs that already have incredible transfers.
To all of you that want the box set, more power to you. |

Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if this is why Paramount relased The Godfather as a boxed set only. 'cuz you know lots of people would pass on the third one. |
Eventually, all of the movies will be released individually. It may not be on the release date, but it will happen. This bickering is pretty ridicoulous.
The economics of scale say release the box set first, make people buy 3 and 4. Then after a year or 2, release the movies individually. A great example of this is Rocky..they just released Rocky 3 and 4 seperately from the box. Same thing with Superman box. |
So,...is there a reason to keep the original boxset? Are all the extras/audio/versions on the original DVDs being transfered over to this new 9DVD boxset? I've seen that other people have asked, but no definate answer has been given. I don't mind own bothing, but if I could keep it to one, then I would. .....BUT...being that the whole ALIEN saga is one of my all time favorite, if extras are not in the new version that were in the old, then I'm keeping both. Anyone have a definate answer?

I want one 1 + 2 also, but might go for the box if the pricing is similar. When Legacy was released it was 19.99 per movie, or $60 for the box.
The Quadrilogy will be about $60 at Best Buy the first week, they sold the Die Hard Box for $50. It may be worth an extra $20 for part 3 + 4 and the 9th disc. |
Time frame on this release?

Very compact and secure. They save alot of space... But if the DS9 set is any indication, it also makes for a less special feel, with much less graphics, photos, etc... |
I'd probably rebuy Alien3. Alien and Aliens already have a bunch of extras, and four, while I think is fun, I wouldn't need anything more then what I already have.
So three is the only one I'd buy, so I won't be buying this set. |
