So I guess I should keep the first boxset since it has the original cuts?
|
Why does a new cut of Alien give you pause. If they reincorporate those cut scenes as seen in the Legacy Alien disc, then I'm cool. Its seamless branching tho, so there is no reason why i can't stick to the original cut if i dont like the new cut so i guess i should get rid of my old versions. |

This is excellent news...though i'm going to have to boycott dvd buying for now & save up for fall.
First some great MGM Midnite titles...then this.not to mention i should pick up the Criterion Hitchcock set before it's to late.Yet dammit am so tight on $$ at the moment.I just can't risk paying $100 for the set. Oh yeah..& hopefully both theatrical & extended versions will be included for all the films.Afterall if this is the definative release.Thats a important inclusion.Yet i can't wait for the set.Though the extended Alien 3 will be interesting to see. |
So can't wait. If only I hear three simple little letters. D.T.S. Its that simple, DTS would make this incrediable

Awesome news

any ideas about how much the alien quadrilogy will cost?
|
My only question is: Who talked Cameron into doing commentaries?
I really hope he is more interesting to listen to than Ridley Scott...that "Alien" commentary made me wanna nap. |
Also, the "workprint" version of Alien3 COULD look really crappy with the new scenes, since some at dvdfile have seen what some of them look like and they can be anywhere from good to pure crap. And to have all of this on this, I doubt a dts track could fit even.

Hope the price will be affordable. I'm guessing somewhere in the $60-70 range. But hopefully DDD will have it for around $55 or so. |
So should I open my original 4-disc set since the cuts will be different, or do I leave it sealed and sell it or trade it? I got it for $42.

Has this set been officially announced yet?
|
alien resurrection DC
Don't forget about the extended Alien4. Fox cut out almost 30 minutes of this film - which caused a VERY abrupt change in the movie about 2/3 thru where "all of a sudden" ripley is with the mutant queen giving childbirth.
I am in the minority that liked Alien4 the most of the set... no, it's not as good as 1 or 2, but I find it more enjoyable and has more replay value for me... |

I think we all should all take a deep breathe and calm down a bit..
As great as this set potentially sounds NON of the xtras have been officially confirmed by FOX yet especially the commentaries which for me would be the only real reason to upgrade my ALIENS disc.. The picture quality is already very good on ALIEN & ALIENS anyway |
Are these new versions going to be released separately? That is the million dollar question that no one seems to know. I ONLY want the first movie, Alien. The current version of Alien has average picture quality and a poor, thin soundtrack. I would love a new version.
|
Yeah, I agree with DavidH. I only want Aliens and when I hear I can buy that one, I will get excited.
|
I'm not sure they want to release the discs separately because what would be the point to redo them since most people wouldn't buy ALIEN 3 & 4 anyway
..From a business standpoint it makes more sense to sell them together kind of like the Godfather Trilogy from Paramount. Would anybody have baught Part III otherwise??..Of course not |
I did buy Die Hard which I would not have done if it was only available in a box set. Fox did make money from me releasing those films individually.
If they don't release Aliens separately I won't buy the box set for one film (just like I didn't buy Universal's Back to the Future box set because I only wanted the first one). |
Oh you people...
For all you cheap-skates who only want to buy one or two of the movies you aren't real Alien fans. Look folks, this whole thing has always been billed as a 9-disc box set called the Alien Quadrilogy. Therefore I see very little chance of FOX in releasing these movies separately. I fully expect this set to be packaged in a sort of gate-fold or digi-pak style box. For Christ's sake these movie sagas that are more or less a continual story, why would you only want a portion of the chapters in the story? Quite frankly, I'm not an all that big Aliens fan persay, but I do own the Alien Legacy set and have had the Alien films on VHS in numerous incarnations, and I fully intend to get this Quadrilogy set just for the extended cuts if anything. And if what cinemaman said above about Resurrection, I'm all over this for sure. |
That doesn't really make sense. There's nothing wrong with only liking 1 or 2 movies out of a series. And there's no reason to force people to buy a whole set. Being a 'real Alien fan' doesn't matter.
