Well, Media Play screwed up and sent me Legend of Drunken Master rather than the Drunken Master 2 that I ordered (even said DM2 on all the invoices!!!)

I was wondering if anyone had a chance to check it out yet. How bad is the dub? How bad is it cut from the original?
They will give me a refund but won't exchange it for what I ordered. Bastards.

The English dub and rescore are the best ever made. Really. Jackie does his own voice and the other voice actors aren't bad either. The new 5.1 sound rocks and the Chinese-influenced score is excellent. I've heard most of the English dubbed Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies released the last few years, and the work on LODM blows them all away. Very impressive.

The original Cantonese dub and score were great (but mono) and should have been included on the DVD (FU Dimension!). But even without them, this is a must-own disc.

they srewed nothing up.

Legend of DM is the US-title for Drunken Master 2.

And the "cut" xuts only 15 , complete useless stupid seconds at the end. ( some sort of a pseudo-political correct ending) .

The rest is all intact.

DM1 is not released on DVD in the US , yet (afaik).

They won't exchange it for what you thought you ordered, because they don't sell what you thought you ordered. Their ordering system, which sort of has the title wrong, is what's screwed up. I say "sort of" because the subtitled version was released on VHS domestically under the orginal title "Drunken Master 2". The dubbed version, retitled theatrically as "Legend of the Drunken Master", is the only DVD version available domestically. MediaPlay should have put the VHS and DVD releases on different pages instead of the same page (or at the very least shown both covers, which I don't think their web software supports).

I think offering you a refund is pretty reasonable. They're hardly bastards.

From: is everything
The last 20 minutes of that movie justify buying it.

I suppose Media Play aren't bastards but I was still pumped up to get an uncut version of the film, and their website is very misleading.
Even on the invoice it said "Drunken Master 2 DVD".

Look here:
http://www.mediaplay.com/cgi-bin/nco...41&prodCode=03

Very misleading. I wouldn't have ordered the DVD if it said it was the US version.

Check out the description too:

"Six years after it became a box office hit in Asia, Drunken Master 2 earned a theatrical release in the United States; the film was re-titled Legend Of The Drunken Master (in part because the original Drunken Master never had a proper theatrical release in America), re-edited, and dubbed into English, with a new score by Michael Wandmacher. -- Mark Deming, All Movie Guide"

All indicating this is NOT the US version.

Who cares, it's a good flick anyway.
