Review Wanted: Rollerball

I didn't think they were that bad, but I'm not too discriminating Considering the age of the movie and the fact this is probably not one of the most popular DVDs/movies I think this is probably all we are going to get so if you like the movie pick it up. Unless of course they actually go through w/ the remake then we might see something else. Since this one already has a commentary, and I imagine not much else exists for it (deleted scenes and whatnot) I doubt there is much more they can add.

The remake is already being filmed (LL Cool J and that guy from American Pie is in it, the dumb jock). It sounds pretty stupid. James Caan was perfect in the original.

I saw the teaser for the remake and it didnt make me want to run and and watch the film.
I'll reserve judgement until I hear reviews and see a proper trailer.
Jean Reno is in it ( I'm sure I saw him in the teaser ).

There's no doubt that the original story, written by William Harrison (search for 'Roller Ball Murder' and his name, you'll find at least one web page w/his original short story for the movie), is totally neglected.
The original movie skated over lots of the finer points- in the short, Jonathon is more a philosiphical type, and somehow in a few short pages he's pictured as a sympathetic character- nevermind he's the bloodthirsty equivalent of Wayne Gretzky and Michael Jordan in one destructive package- but somehow it all works. Reading the short again only makes me want the (original) movie more, even with those yeechy 70's looks, like those checkbook-style numbers and the whole sterile feel to it...
This remake promises much worse- the 'star' of it has already called it a 'popcorn' flick, I think we can expect a bastardized plot and little more....
