I liked the movie, but it has some flaws to be sure. But the cast is good and the premise is played out well, so if you like the genre, then by all means check it out. The disc is very good though, audio commentary track with the director and visual f/x supervisor, cast & crew interviews, and trailer/tv spots. The commentary is a good one, lots of information and the director loves to talk.

"Bless The Child" was a tremendous disappointment and is easily the worst widely-released genre film of 2000...I'd go so far to say as the worst genre film I've ever seen theatrically and the second worst film of 2000, period, behind "Boys and Girls". Awful effects, terrible dialogue, wooden acting, and unbearably preachy. It borders on being entirely unwatchable.

Brian_B, you sound like you have a true appreciation for film. It's nice I am sure to force your opinions on others, but some of us prefer free thinking.

I rented this one the other night.
Personally I thought it was pretty good. There were some parts that seemed kinda cheesy, and the demons flying around, though they look cool, seemed a little too much like they didn't fit the movie, like you can tell they just stuck em in there for the hell (no pun intended) of it
But I like these kinda movies, the biblical armageddon type stuff happening today type of movies .. It's definately worth a rental, I'd say rent it first and see if ya like it. If you thought End of Days was good, you'll prolly like this one IMO

I rented and watched this movie last night. I thought it was terrible, hard to even get through. One of the worst movies I have watched in quite awhile. I really can't think of anything that I thought was actually good about this film. I am gald I rented it first and strongly suggest you rent this before you decide to buy.

Re: Bless the Child
I rented this one the other night and I found it incredible hard to sit through...The only reason I made it to the end credits was the fact that I paid to rent it and I wanted to see it all...Kim Bassinger, since her Oscar win for LA Confidential has found it very hard for some reason to make a commercial or critical success with any of her movies...While BTChild was not the worst movie I sat through, I found it extremely hard to watch a movie that seemed too done before..i.e-End of Days, Stigmata, I know there were others too during that time...Jimmy Smitts was horrible and wrongly cast as was the kid in the movie and the villains...with the exception of Bassinger Id say the movie was entirely miscast...not worth a buy, barely worth a rent

Well, I am back after watching Bless the Child and let me tell you...I am a changed man. Well, not exactly I guess. Alright, I'll get to the chase...it was pretty bad. The story held up, sort of. My biggest problem was the lame acting and terrible dialogue.

Well its only right for me to respond since i started the thread. Well like a fool i bought Bless The Child the other day and was sadly dissapointed. The acting in this movie was terrible!!, especially from Kim Basinger. Everyone hits it on the nose when they say that after her AA she has just fell off the hill. She made the move impossible to sit through. The story was poor also. The only part of the movie i really enjoyed was when the little girls room was full of rats, that was some pretty nice visuals. Other than that, Terrible Movie!!!, in my opinion.

***************SPOILER****************
Did anyone else notice that when the dentist is hit by the car, his body never lands?
That was the one source of amusment I found during the film (I watched it with a group of people, so I couldn't turn it off) - trying to find mistakes. Oh well

I watched Bless the Child the other night and pretty much enjoyed the movie. It certainly wasn't a great movie, but I thought it was okay. I know there are a lot of religious overtones throughout the movie, but that doesn't bother me one bit. I don't pretend to be a good judge of acting ability unless it gets really bad. But, I didn't see any "really bad acting" in the movie. I would suggest that if a movie with religious overtones bothers you, then by all means rent it before you consider buying it. If, on the other hand, you enjoy this type of movie, then you might consider buying. I felt the overall "message" in the movie was a good one. So, I bought it.
