This is an unusual film. Given your interest in Noir I think you would like it. Two brothers share an incredible physical likeness - they are not twins. They do not live together and meet each other for the first time at their fathers funeral. The story starts shortly after the funeral when one brother travels to visit the other. Brother one is in trouble and attempts to kill brother two making it seem that it was actually brother one that was killed, thus allowing brother one to assume the identity of brother two and escape the trouble that he is in. Things don't work out as planned. In an odd twist that works surprisingly well they cast a white man as one brother and a black man as the other brother and somehow as a viewer you believe that they look alike -well sort of.
I watched the movie on a portable so I can't give a detailed review of the picture or sound quality but as I recall it is B&W WS anamorphic and good quality.

I have always wanted to see this since it came out back in 1993 or something like that. It is rather hard to find though.

I know. Unfortunately, I don't have the Sundance Channel. (I'm still upset about the local cable company getting rid of IFC!) I was looking at the list of film noirs to be shown on television this months at tv-now. Besides many showings of "Suture" on the Sundance Channel, there are a few on Showtime. I'm hoping to catch it there and then decide if I want to buy it.

Okay, I got tired of waiting to see it on cable and decided to pick up the disc anyway. I'm a huge fan of classic film noir...so much so that I've become a bit of a snob when it comes to neo-noir. Still, I must say that I was quite impressed. The film is incredibly stylish with wonderful visuals (The first scene is one of the most thrilling scenes I've seen in a long time.) and I am so glad that they decided to film it in black and white (which, being a snob, is how I prefer a noir film to be shot).
The casting of the two brothers (one black, one white) should be ridiculous. It was my biggest concern about the film. But it's handled so well that it never became the problem I thought it would be. That said, I'm still not sure what the directors intended with this bit of casting. Is it a joke, or are they trying to make some kind of statement? I have no idea (and I have yet to read a review where a critic has any idea, either).
The directors of this film have a new neo-noir being released soon that has built up decent buzz. (The name escapes me at the moment.) I'm interested to see what they do next (although I do wish that they would have stuck with shooting in black and white for this upcoming film).
