I'm considering spending the $150 on this set if I can find a good coupon. Does anyone have a review for this one?

My set arrived yesterday. I watched disc 1 last night. I enjoyed it very much. Instead of having a cadre of fat stuffed musicologists,
Burns decided to use Stanley Crouch, Albert Murray, Gerald Early, Wynton Marsalis, and even Ossie Davis to explain and comment on Performers as well as the racial and political climate of the times. For me, a long time musician,it is very rich to listen to these novelists and musicians commenting on a very complex subject, for Jazz is also a history of slavery and racial discrimination. The Video and audio quality are quite good, better than I had hoped. If you are a strict historian/musicologist you will find that much is missing. If you are looking to celebrate a distinctly American music form you will find much to enjoy.

Well, I've watched the first 3 episodes, and I'm enjoying it a lot. I'm mostly a rock, folk, Celtic, and Reggae fan,and know almost nothing about Jazz, so it's been pretty enlightening to me. Wynton Marsalis' comments are very insightful and deep, in my opinion.

GenMcClellan - You're right, it was like comparing apples and oranges but his comment was poking fun at the cerebral debate that was "raging" in the Triumph thread...

I just picked it up at Best Buy for $124.99.
You have to buy either the CD box set for $44.99 or the Best of CD for $12.99 and you get $25 off the normal $149.99 price. The sale is good through the 20th.
