I would like a review for this movie. What do you think?

Yes, a completely fantastic Western, and one of my all-time favorite movie endings.

You're in luck because I just watched this DVD last night. I ordered "The Man With No Name" trilogy from Columbia House couple of months ago and just got around to watching all 3 movies last night. They did a fabulous job with these movies. The quality is far superior to the what's shown on TV. I highly recommend the set if you're interested in all of the "spaghetti westerns".

Regarding GBU and the rest of the MWNN trilogy. . .

Despite the films' respective ages, the video is outstanding. The contrast between the sky and the sand is postcard quality.

The sound is mono.

One of the best films of all time, and my favorite Clint Eastwood western. A fine-looking DVD picture as well. Lee Van Cleef (the guy who sends Snake "in" in Escape from NY) plays a great bad guy.

I recently bought Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven and The Outlaw Josey Wales. I enjoyed both of these DVDs. How does The Good, the Bad and the Ugly compare to these two Eastwood gems? Is the quality of the DVD acceptable?

If my memory serves me right, this is the movie that started it all--Clint's so-called spaghetti westerns--Fistful of Dollars, A Few Dollars More, etc.

Excellent DVD, epic-length movie. A must have for Clint Eastwood fans; I have this one, and won't part with it for all the tea in China.

discussed in this very forum a week ago:

you must buy it, excellent video quality, you'd barely know it's an old film.

It's one of the greatest Western of all time; a must have if you're a Clint Eastwood fan. The DVD quality is excellent however, the sound is in mono.

Fellow Cowboys,

That's probably because it was made in mono.

Doh!

Thanks for the replies. Before posting,I did a search on "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" and got no match found as a reply. Looks like I'll be adding GBU to my collection

You wont be disappointed. One of the greatest westerns ever made. The DVD is very good and has a few scenes (as extras) that were deleted in the American cut, in Italian, and one of them is really good (the one with Van Cleef visting the camp). Also checkout For a Few Dollars More and Fistful of Dollars.

An absolute classic...
However, I think the DVD is very poorly done.
The picture is pretty good for an old film but the sound is atrocious and I'm not talking about the fact that its in mono.
I recorded this off television a while back which they broadcasted in letterbox and the sound is way better on my VHS tape.

Great movie.

The picture is beautiful but one of the things that I always disliked about these movies is that it seems like the voices are out of synch. It's not the DVD because it's the same when I watch them on TV. Bugs.

That is because the films have an international cast, and not everybody spoke the same language. Leone just had them say their lines in their native tongue, and dubbed the rest in later.

I figured as much. And I still don't like it!

It was the third of the trilogy, and the best. Get all three: Fist full of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and GB&U. simply the best western ever. ya gotta love those extreme close-ups of "real" people. bad teeth and all.

Good Bad And The Ugly-Worst Print Ever?

Ater watching the GBU on disc. I have decided that they could not have used a more terrible print to transfer to dvd. Am I wrong? Is there one out there even worse?

FYI, I merged your thread (and another) into an existing The Good The Bad and The Ugly review thread to keep everything together.

And based on the responses above, no, it's not the worst transfer ever. And if my memory serves me correctly, I certainly had no problem with it on my set.

As for bad transfers...the worst I've ever seen is Madacy's transfer of Metropolis.

consitering the budget, the crap transfer on tbs, and that these movies are over 35 years old, the transfer's are exellent.
