Saw this one locally for $37 Cdn ($25 US) and had to buy it considering it goes for US$50+ online and $200+ as a legit import.
It's the entire Giant Robo OVA anime series spread across 3 DVDs. Giant Robo is a great series employing an ethusiastic retro look (60s stylings meets 90s animation) with a rousing symphonic score and gigantic action set pieces.
Previously, the few bootleg HK anime product I had seen had been terrible: Bad, artifact-ridden transfers with permanent Chinese subs and no English options. However, this Giant Robo set has _excellent_ picture quality. They must have copied the vob files right off the recent Japanese discs. Just superb picture and sound.
Even more impressive and the main selling point for me: There are removable English subtitles! Granted, they are awful in terms of intelligibility (probably translated from Japanese to Chinese to English in the most literal/quick way possible), but it's still manageable.
Overall, this is a good set to tide you over until a real North American release occurs.
BTW, I also checked out the Blue Submarine No.6 Perfect Collection bootleg disc that I believe is the same on around Ebay. Do NOT bother. No English subs, the usual artifact-ridden transfer.
