I was thinking about getting this since I have part 2 on preorder. But, I saw it's non-anamorphic (I have a 65" 16x9 HDTV so it does make a difference). Couldn't find reviews on any of the major sites, except for Amazon's video & audio rating (both 5 of 5). How is the picture? I've already seen the movie a few times, just wondering about the video quality.

Here is a review at DVD File. It is pretty positive for the most part.

I saw the review at DVDFile, but that's for part 2 (MI2). I was wondering about the non-anamorphic picture quality on the first movie, not the sequel.

Here is a link to a pretty good review from DVDShrine.com. http://www.dvdshrine.com/reviews/show.shtml?id=62
I have been waiting for a re-release of this movie, but it doesn't look evident in the near future. A few of the early Paramount discs lack an anamorphic transfer and extras.

Oops!. Sorry about that. I guess I got ahead of myself.

The transfer is very good for non-anamorphic. The cool set-piece of Cruise breaking into the CIA mainframe could've been a shimmering mess but it looks great. Paramount really put some effort into it even if they didn't go all the way to 16x9. The Big Picture agrees in its review - and they have a 100" 16x9 screen.

First of all a 100" 16:9

Second, I rented this a few months ago and the movie felt incredibly dated and old even though its not that old a movie. Rent it before you buy it, I don't remember there being too much in extras on the disc so don't be surprised to see an eventual Anamorphic SE reissue if MI2 sells well enough. Just my thoughts FWIW.
