I was able to get a first look at "Any Given Sunday" today and those who are fans of the movie will be extremely pleased by the work that Warner Brothers has done. In terms of image quality, this is easily their very best work yet, and the sound quality is fantastic, as well.

There isn't too much in the way of extra features: the film adds a few additional minutes in a "director's cut"(chapters that have additional footage are marked in the chapter index inside the box and in the disc's chapter index). Also, there is a music video, 20 minute "making-of" and the trailer, along with cast/crew bios and DVD-Rom material.

I still think the movie itself is good, but long. I'm not sure if Stone needed nearly 3 hours to tell this story, but when the movie hits the mark it's very entertaining. If you would like to read the full review of the DVD and film, click below.

I hated this movie!! It seemed like they kept every second of footage whether it was made for this movie or any other movie. Seriously, I was hoping for this movie to be awesome because I'm a Pacino fan from way back but two things ruin the movie.

1. As you stated the movie is too long. WAYYY TOO LONG!
2. Oliver Stone's style could have been neat in the movie BUT everything was overdone. For example, during intense football moments you get the shaky camer and weird camera angles etc. This fine and could really set up some cool moments BUT when they use the same technique ALL through the movie then all of the effect is lost! Add to this the fact that the shaky/weird style of camera shots are used EVEN during slow moments that are meant to be moving and emotional. You can't even see Pacino talking about his passion for the game with another person without the freaking camera doing something weird!!

Could have been a good movie with another director and about an hour cut out of it.

Saw this in the teater, haven't seen the dvd yet. Notice how every female character in the movie is either stupid, drunk or mean. Stone must have been in a bad mood when he made this one.
However, notice every female without a speaking role is drop dead gorgeous.

I definitely felt the movie had waaaay too much "football game" footage, and the fast cuts between current action and historical football footage was incongruous and in most cases nonsensical. Also, a lot of the game footage (particularly during the first hour or so) involved cuts too fast or with too much background noise, so you could barely understand what was happening in the game.

There were some subplots about learning to be part of a team that were very clear, but it seemed to me that the major plotline was: Here were all of these people who had wasted their lives, given up virtually everything that was important to them, for something that made very little difference in the long run. And the movie seemed to say that football itself was meaningless and all about making money.

Yet for this meaningless pursuit, Pacino gave up his family, Diaz gave up anything she liked doing, and that linebacker dude gave up his ability to ever walk again. Given that plotline, it is irritating that Stone chose to make the movie as long as it was, forcing us to give up nearly three hours of our time to watch it.
