Read the book first. A lot of movies, Crash, The Sheltering Sky, etc. are better if you read the book first. Some like Fight Club are very good even if you haven't read the book. I read "Eye of the Behlder" last December & didn't realize it was being made into a movie until about a week before its release. The book is excellent, originally it's set in the 70s with a private eye, not some government spook like in the film, chasing a young "black widow" around with the delusion that it may be his daughter. Sort of psychadelic Jim Thompson novel. I like the movie, but i had read the book first.

My father insisted on renting this movie with one of the free DVD rental coupons he has for Blockbuster despite me asking him to rent anything else. Having now watched the movie, the wisdom of this advice is clear.
And to think, my Blockbuster had an HK copy of A Better Tomorrow that we could have rented instead. Now there's a movie I'd like to see.
