During the 1950s, Hollywood put out several sci-fi movies, including one in which a rocket ship is launched to the moon. At the time when space travel was still a dream, and there were no such inventions as the transister, this movie was a classic and filled the imaginations of us kids.
Mission to Mars was terrible in comparision to its 1950 predecessors. It was uneven, and it left a whole lot of questions unanswered by the time the movie ended. I would not recommend anyone wasting their money on renting it.
By the way, the simpleton who thought of landing only one ship on the surface of Mars without any means of getting home should be shot!
