If you like the movie get/stick to the Elite version. If your so/so about the movie then it might be worth picking up. I enjoyed the commentary, but the new footage sucked BIGTIME!!! Unfortunately I didn't have my 5.1 system at that point and I haven't been bored enough to drop it back in the player so I can't comment on that. Also since I didn't get the LE I don't know anything about the CD.
Zipp, nope. It contains:

From: Right now, my location is DVDTalk, but then again, you should already know that, shouldn't you?
brianluvdvd, yes the limited edition DVD contains the limited edition CD soundtrack, which features one additional track not found on the standard release. If you haven't heard the score, you've missed nothing. It is merely synth-crap, and the canned music of the original beats it on all accounts. Also, filmbuddy, the audio on this version is a serious disappointment compared to the Elite version, and is a testament that a 5.1 remix isn't always an improvement. Overly loud music and muffled dialogue are just two of the problems this DVD is saddled with. In fact, the entire 30th anniversary edition is so bad in terms of story revision and enhancement, video transfer, and audio, it's difficult to wrap your mind around the truth of it. AVOID THIS DISC AT ALL COSTS!!!

I have to agree. I blew my money on this trash and now I can't get it back =(
The 5.1 audio is the worst I've ever heard. The newly filmed scenes are just stupid and don't match the original footage in any way, shape or form. The new soundtrack is, well, ugly and to make matters worse they re-recorded much of the foley and the new effects don't even match up to the action.
I couldn't have imagined a disc this bad until I bought and watched the 30th An' Edition. Go with the Elite, you won't be sorry. The Elite version is beautifully restored (there are problems with the print but in the main it's very good) and it includes a commentary track with George Romero and the crew. But wait, there's more! The disc has a _second_ commentary track with the actors. You also get the theatrical trailer, a TV spot and some other cool odds and ends.

I can't believe people have replied to this question I asked over 4 months ago!!! Well, since that time, I got 30th Anniversary (for about $7, so I don't feel cheated), and I still have yet to watch it. And based on all the negative criticism I've heard regarding this DVD, I probably never will. I have the original ELITE Laserdisc with all the extras, so I guess I'll stick with that one.

well, i got this in a trade b/c i really wanted to see really how bad it could be...boy was i surprised!!!!
this version IS as bad as everyone warns it is. the new score is horrible & cheesy. the new scenes are truly some of the worst i have ever seen & are unnecessary to the story. the acting is terrible & the over-acting is worse.
the commentary is okay but it is mainly some of the cast & director patting themselves on the back for the length of the movie. the documentary really just goes into, again, patting themselves on the back for the new scenes, etc.
the transfer really is nice but the score, & the new scenes makes this dvd a Must-Not Buy!!!
go Elite version all the way!!!
