Anyone get the cheapo version of this disc that just came out? It has no extras but is bargain basement and the film is great. Is it worth picking up?

John Sayles is a great director. This movie is pretty weird, its funny due to the dumbness factor (a "brother" alien who works at a arcade fixing games). If you see this and hate it or like it, you should still see Matewan and City of Hope which are 2 really good john sayles movies, ohh and also 8 men out. I think Matewan is his best though.
I did see Brother From Another Planet in a college film class, so other people must like it.

i havent see it on DVD though.

Thanks for your post. I should have been clearer. I have seen Brother a number of times and consider it a masterpiece, maybe Sayles' best film. I'm just wondering if this disc is any good. I don't care about extras (Passion Fish and Lone Star don't really have any either) but I want a nice transfer. The film is very dark and underlit and could suffer a lot from a bad transfer.
I'm not sure about buying this, and also I may or may not get The Secret of Roan Inish since it has commentary (I already have the LD).
As for other Sayles films, Matewan is not one of my faves, but I need to watch it again. City of Hope is another on that I love.

I've not watched the whole disc yet, just the first 20 minutes. Picture quality is poor, just slightly better than VHS. It is also pan and scan, and it has no extras, just a single menu screen that lets you play the movie.

BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET seems to be NOT a legit copy. The DVD is a boot from a bad video tape (you actually see video tape drop outs). The studio who released the DVD has been releasing alot of "questionable" DVD, of "questionable" origin on who holds the copyright. It is cheap, but I am sure a legit one will come out soon.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely NOT be buying that. Has anyone preordered Roan Inish? I haven't heard the Sayles commentary track on Limbo. I'm sure he's eloquent. Any comments on that? Maybe that will persuade me to use one of my few remaining discounts to pick that up.
