I saw this movie for the first time in years the other day. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was better than I remembered. So, how is the transfer on the DVD?

First, as you know, The Grifters is a superb film. Possibly the last great film noir. There are no extras on the DVD, but it looks and sounds very good. Pick this one up, as you won't be disappointed.

Actually I thought the transfer was absolutly horrible. The colors were bleeding and dark. Might have been because I watched it in the afternoon with lots of glare.

I just played the DVD again tonight and the transfer looks very good to me. I can see what grapejuice12 is referring to, though. There are a lot of warm, earth tones in the film, and when there is a dark scene (such as the closeup of a horse's legs at the racetrack or an indoor scene), there is some bleedthrough, especially with strong colors like red and blue. I didn't think that it was that glaringly bad, though. I think that it's still worth getting.

Incidentally, the only extras are multiple language subtitling, cast bios, and an annoying announcer who reads off the menus and biography text.
