I would like a review of the director's cut of this movie.
Also, as a side note, does anyone know if Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio has a problem with this film. I read somewhere that she, "understanably", doesn't appear on the special supplements on the DVD.

The director's cut of the movie is awesome -- one of my favorite movies of all time. There are reviews of the DVD at www.dvdreview.com and www.dvdfile.com
If you are looking for reviews of the movie itself, there are several reviews at the Internet Movie Database.
Mastrantonio was upset at her treatment by Cameron during filming and consquently refuses to work with him again and does not take part in the supplements. As you will learn from the excellent documentary, The Abyss was a very difficult film to make and the cast and crew were under incredible strain. James Cameron apparently has a tendancy to treat his actors like cattle and it really rubbed Mastrantonio the wrong way during this shoot. In particular, there was one very emotional scene that she was filming and halfway through the camera actually ran out of film -- she screamed a bit (understandably, I think) and then stormed off the set.

bboisvert, thanks for the info on MEM. I find it interesting that she had such a bad experience with him. I wish she would have taken part in the documentary and discussed her experience.

i watched the director's cut the other day & have just started to delve into the extras.
watched the hour long documentary which was one of the best i have ever seen. also a decent little featurette & the trailers. there is also the trailer for Aliens kinda hidden in the trailer section.
cant wait to get into the commentaries & all the text stuff. does anyone know if the commentary for the theatrical cut is completely different from the directors cut or is it just different in the added scenes?

Am I the only one who hated the DC of this film?
I thought the whole DC made this another PONTIFICATING ALIEN "CAN'T WE ALL GET ALONG" flick. YUCK!!!!!
Although, I did like the extended SINGING scene with One Night and the guys. It developed the closeness of the crew in my opinion.

One of my favorite scifi movies in an incredible DVD. This movie has great repeat value, and the extras on the DVD are fantastic.

Actually if you look really closely at the trailer page, there are trailers for Aliens, True Lies, and Strange Days.

I think the giant wave is real cool. To bad it wasn't shown slamming into the coast, with a detail level similar to the nuclear blast in T2. All in all though, I would say I prefer the director's cut.
