Just picked this one up as I am a fan of the original. Fortress 2 is of course pretty much a copy of the original, but it looks like it had a much higher budget and Columbia gave it a very good transfer. Lambert returns again as John Brennick. It picks up 10 years after the original. At the beginning he is again captured by the Men-Tel corporation. He awakens in a space station-popwerplant/prison. He must once again contend with an internal pain device and evil prisoners (and wardens).
While it follows the exact same formula as the original, it does have some new twists. One is what the warden is up to, which I won't reveal. Another involves a cockroach. There are also some cool fights, especially against the flamethrower guy.
If you liked the original, I suggest seeing Fortress 2. It is actually a faithful sequel, and despite not being very original it is still fun. Oh, and don't be fulled by Pam Grier getting high billing, she basically just has a cameo.
